I'll admit, I get the people who don't like the book. It certainly isn't my favorite in the IDW line-up (that still remains Revolutionaries). I will say in reference to the art that I'm definitely looking forward to when the series gets re-launched as G.I. Joe: Unmasked with Nelson Daniel on art. He currently draws Clue and his style is smooth and vibrant. And hopefully Sitterson will be able to make the character of Matt Trakker actually interesting.

I'll admit: They definitely botched Trakker (imho). His new version is nothing at all like his old, which makes him a completely different character who shares the same name for some God-awful reason. Sometimes this works with minor characters, but I truly feel bad for all the die-hard M.A.S.K. fans out there...

I agree with you about the Matrix movies. I was never a fan either.

It was a poorly written, poorly executed fight. I wonder if the guy writing has ever even been around a fight ...just horrid. The animal images to show style was bad..just bad. Quickkick quips thru the whole thing..trash...the only spin they could put in this is snakeeyes let him win cause quick kick needs that ego stroke

This run...has the runs.
Quick Kick beating SE? No. It goes against all past tradition. The cartoon was too silly. The art is bad. GI Joe was Marvel 1 - 155...this is something else. Time to pull the plug. BTW, did Vince McMahon fire this guy? |

I'm really enjoying this run, even though I know it's ending next month. The humor, the twists and turns, the homage to Sunbow, Grand Slam's bitterness and anger at being disabled--something I can really relate to. Snake-Eyes being invincible got boring a lot time ago. Props to Aubrey Sitterson for the fight, and props to Larry Hama for killing off the original. I just don't prefer Larry's "I do what I want, and the characters run the show, and if I don't like something, it's gone" approach. Also, the fans seem to irritate Larry. Not good when you're writing a franchise-based book. Or any book.

You know, I can understand not liking the Milonogiannis art - different strokes and all that - but I don't get thinking it's objectively bad or amateurish. It's not realistic because it's not trying to be; it's evoking a "90's manga" style, a la Shirow Masamune. Just because it's not what's normal for Joe doesn't mean that it's BAD.
(Frankly, I'd take Milonogiannis's work over the vast majority of pre-Revolution IDW Joe artists; with the exception of Antonio Fuso, who similarly has interesting stylisation going on.) |

(Frankly, I'd take Milonogiannis's work over the vast majority of pre-Revolution IDW Joe artists; with the exception of Antonio Fuso, who similarly has interesting stylisation going on.) I think perhaps the Joe community has come to expect a certain style of art, because it is what they are used to. Any deviation and it is "bad" now there are certainly some bad artists out there doing comics for sure. The artists at IDW did not get as far as they have by being "bad." Jeffrey Veregge was panned mightily by this crowd but he has many credits under his belt. He is often invited to show his work at galleries, science fiction galas etc. However his style was not very well accepted (at least on the GIJOE forums) for GIJOE. We get spoiled by having an artist like Atkins, Seeley, etc. Then along comes Art Baltazar with his popular "aw yeah" style and it is largely ignored by this community. I guess when it comes to comics, the more detailed, intricate styles that mirror realism a great deal are accepted more readily. People don't like change much. IDW likes to use many styles of art on all their books. Especially cover art.

Art can take you out of a story, but so can writing. In comics you need the right mixture to be successful. People do have different tastes. Just because you like it doesn't make the other person wrong who hates it.
