Fred VII posted a thread a few weeks back about how little discussion of the current Joe IDW comics there was going on. He got a lot of responses about why. Most of the posts I read were very down on the current "Hama-verse". I reached out to him by PM and long story short we decided to start a thread discussing the "Hama-verse" from the beginning. We figured everyone loves the original Marvel run with Larry at the helm. If any Joe comic property can get Tankers discussing Joe comics positively, that can. We hope many will join in and hopefully keep it positive or at least constructive criticism. We figured do one issue a week starting from #1. Let's post the next issue to discuss every Sunday night. So break out your trades, your digitals or your originals. If you don't have them and have never read the original Marvel, please get a copy and join in. So let's talk #1 from now till next Sunday the 4th. Have at it. Yo Joe!

I dug out my GI Joe #1 Treasury Edition for this. It is the only Joe item I still have from childhood. This was $1.27 well spent! The Treasury edition had the following extras: Second story of "Hot Potato!", GI Joe Weapons Profiles for the Mobat, Vamp and HAL, Classified files on the PIT and some of the Joes. Can anyone tell me if those came with the original regular number #1 issue?

Yes, all those extras inducing Hot Potato, Profiles, etc. are included in the original GI Joe #1. I would love to find a copy of that treasury edition, it would nice to see an oversize print of this classic issue! I look forward to reading along and joining the conversation every week, I hope many others choose to join in and re-read GI Joe from the beginning and contribute to the conversation. I still have my run of the original series, but will be re-reading along using the GI Joe: The Complete Collection HC volumes (This series presents the full run of original G.I. JOE comics in proper reading order in an oversized, re-colored hardcover format...highly recommended!) - There are currently 9 volumes released that go up to GI Joe #83 (and Special Missions #19). New volumes are released a couple times a year - When complete the collection will be 15 volumes. Yo Joe!

I've been buying the Hard Covers, and am really happy with them. They just need to come out faster! I preordered the last volume (#9 I believe) on 12/25/15, and it keeps getting pushed back, currently 9/20. Same thing happened with a few previous volumes.
Anyway, the hard covers included that extra issue #1 stuff, like the hot potato story/etc.

The comic certainly helped hook me.
I think the first ten issues cemented GIJOE in my brain. Now the first issue, I was introduced to this new character Baroness. Who up to this point I had colored as a blonde in my coloring books. I also had given CC a red hood and black uniform in those early first coloring books. A lot imagery from the first two issues were re-used for the coloring books. I think I stared at the MOBAT and VAMP pages for hours. My copy is very well worn.
