Cover showdown: Goofy Zartan vs a sketch. I dunno tough call.
Oh, great now Tunnel Rat is Duke's nephew. Come on, Hama, this stuff is getting old. Little Nicky kicks Roadpig in the face and that's a good thing! Destro gets Ha-ha-ha'd so much you'd think he was up against The Joker. Teens get brainwashed by Cobra and immediately get promoted to Crimson Guardsmen. Impressive. Orange is the new GI JOE. Dusty and Airtight will appreciate Hot-Seat and Windmill after this. Destro seeing through Zartan's disguise is funny. Did Zartan really think a IG would engage in chitchat with Destro? Rock'n Roll and the kid see CC and Mindbender walking down a hall without guards and don't gun them down. That would be funny, then they try to rescue their friends who are brainwashed and Clutch somehow becomes the new Cobra Commander. Modded the X-19 for jumping out of. It's nice that it's explained and not some cartoon thing where a two seater plane can suddenly hold 12 people. Hawk makes a half the battle reference but is it a toon nod or a dis? Jinx mentions Solo, but this isn't a Star Wars comic. Hawk mentions the Max, but Spearhead's bobcat won't appear in the story. Overall: A lot of talking mostly. And Roadpig getting kicked in the face, and T-Rat in the back of the head. Yeah. |

A third set-up issue in a row, as is common practice in the IDW run. This one is at least showing improvement and promises some proper action.
The home squad wants to use SNAKE-EYES to deal with this plot. We still have a couple issues to fill for the trade, though, so it's time for some boots on the ground for the first time in like a year. Meeting scene is surprisingly good. Classic Hama. Destro gets one-upped, but that's fine. He's a smarty, so everything always goes according to plan. Zartan continues to come off as a buffoon in the IDW run, though. The master of disguise is now a clown who could barely trick a group of kids. This isn't good writing. No one ends up looking good, but one character loses his credibility. What happened to the specialist rule? Yes, Cobra's standing is so low now any punk kid who walks in is Siegie class. "You've played FPS games before? Why didn't you tell us? You've been promoted to Crimson Guard Commander!" The extraction team is the kind of crew I read this comic for. Back in the day the modified Phantom would have been a retooled toy. I want that! Comic pack potential: Lazy Boy Siegie kidz and bumcakes Dusty.

Middle Eastern “wiping” practice, or so I heard in my post-Desert Storm military days.
We’ll be doing the same thing if TP doesn’t get restocked! ;)

Juan Castro's inks didn't do Ron Wagner's pencils justice on this issue but, man, I miss Wagner's work on ARAH. He is easily among my top five ARAH artists and I'd love to see him on the title again--with an inker that better compliments his style.
