Ominous is right. In the letters column: “Gosier is here for the duration.” I didn’t catch it back then.
And this issue is .....it’s just comedy. All comedy. Like, I’m not saying I find it funny, but it definitely leans more slapstick then almost anything we’ve ever seen. And so that’s it. 4 issues to go (5 if you count that “other” inventory issue) and this is the end of the conflict. With no real end. At all. Thanks, Marvel. |

I really appreciate Cobra Commander's origin. He tried to build a family, run a business, own a house, and do the right thing. However he was not emotionally mature. He took things personally when his brother died, he went crazy after stewing in his resentments, he had no tools to deal with life.
His way of reacting to events like loss and the slow off-shoring and decline of America under the bad trade deals of the 80s was to create his own reality. His origin gives us enough material to define his personality very clearly while still leaving mystery as well. He is charming, articulate, persuasive, and a leader. We also can see clearly that he is paranoid, self-obsessed, self-centered, and motivated by emotions. Those emotions are not mature, he has a juvenile and undeveloped emotional capability. He is not loyal. He is not trustworthy. He also becomes what he originally hates or fears. He wants to create a new way for Americans to live without "Uncle Sam," the military, or the economy of his time. What he becomes is a multi-national military dictator who does not care about the lives of the men he directs. He lives richly from the work of others, he has no defining ideology or beliefs after the Cobra organization is built and successful. He is the opposite in internal moral character from a United States soldier.

USED car salesman! The profession of a liar and a cheater who is out for his own gain, not the well-being of others.

I also like the Cobra Commander origin. Although evil for the sake of evil like Skeletor is sometimes fun, I've always been interested in villains who started out with good intentions. In our nerd culture, Darth Vader, Magneto, Thanos, and to some degree Megatron immediately come to mind.
This also often sets up a trial for our heroes to not cross the same lines in their quest, Batman, Luke Skywalker etc. Anybody can do the right thing when it is easy. Life isn't black and white. There is a lot of gray area. Most "bad guys" always think they are right. A lot of "good guys" are not as right as they think they are either.
