The destruction of the GI JOE logo continues...including the issue number box.
Who are the Joes shooting at in that cover? Snake-Eyes? If they want to kill baddies, they'd be aiming lower. Yet another 2 page spread, alas it has to be the Scorpion Cheerleader formation. "This is sheer stupidity!" Firefly would good at cinemasins. So how did Firefly's few battle damaged freighter BATS turn into hundreds? The answer is shown but these are MK 1's, not reprogrammed Mark 2's that he recently acquired. Overtime at the BAT plant? Okay. But then why are there so many predamaged mark 1's? Duke calls Roadblock "Rock and Roll". Come on, Duke. You knew RB before the Joe team. "Joe take care of our own!" A few minutes later "Roadblock can take care of himself!" Shooting an M2 .50 right next to your ear would be unwise. Roadblock is deaf now. BAT plant. Robots creating robots, how perverse! The Red Ninjas narrating their own demise. Cobra has some army green howitzer stored away, would be funny if instead it was the Slugger that sank in the quicksand. Snake-Eyes effortlessly beats Firefly. You can watch it all on tv! Even Snake-Eyes has had enough and turns off the entire story line. Firefly's fate is unknown...until Devil's er... IDW issues. Letters pages 1 & 1/2: Did Metal Head escape Destro's castle...we won't answer! Some fan sold his Joes to buy baseball cards. THE FOOL. All pre 1980 cards are worthless! Yeah, the Firefly saga ends on static. It was a dumb ride. It had potential, but Firefly becoming a talky megalomaniac never worked for me. The big result is that Cobra Island ceases to be anything after this, appearing just once more IIRC. |

Oh man, this story is still going on? What more can still be said? Duke DOES use his Cable-gun. The BATs are now just as useless as in the cartoon, and the ninjas even more so. The story features a suitable climax, as we finally get to see ninja master Firefly take on SNAKE-EYES! Firefly even tapes the whole thing, because this is going to be HUGE! What happens? He gets pushed against a computer and is done! So done, in fact, that he can't remember he can eat Slice and Dice for breakfast.
Even the SNAKE-EYES body count is disappointing. Can't see what happens to the scorpion because the screams get in the way, but I think SE kills Shrek? I'll just count the scorpion as one collective entity. Next up are two Wile E. Coyotes who go investigate a huge blob of plastic explosives connected to a remote detonator. "We must AARRGHHH!" makes it four. That's 111 kills in 84 appearances. Letters page asks readers to send in a list of all the dead characters. Some troll should have sent in a list with Dojo and Ozone in place of Doc and Breaker. Solicitations promise the end of an era in G.I.Joe #134. Yeah, the end of an era of G.I.Joe the good comic book. Next issue: Snake-Eyes claims his biggest victim yet as he kills the entire series. Back cover features a legit BAD ASS who's too cold to collect TMHT trading cards. Quote:
"I told you I don't watch the cartoon!"

Agreed that this storyline really dragged. Way too long for a monthly and no real stakes.

This era of the Marvel comic is very reminiscent of the current state of the IDW comic.
Pointless stories, too many ninja's and robots, with not enough focus on the actual GIJoe team outside of a handful of token characters. |

At least this issue featured a couple of actual Joes, not a bunch of OCs Mary Suing some level 1 Goombas.
