Huh, nope! Why would I think that when he's almost the same age as my dad?
He's 73.

issue 300
In Dr. Mindbender's lab on Cobra Island, a clone of Snake-Eyes drops to the floor, covered in cloning tube gel. It is balancing its weight on a sword. In the background a throwing star is visible, embedded in a panel. Mindbender declares that the clone may believe he is the original, but says this within earshot of the clone. Genghis Khan is paranoid of it. The large zombie bomb is being guarded by Vipers as the two leaders argue about how to manage the clone situation. The clone stumbles and Khan freaks out. Mindbender orders the clone to give a "Cobra salute." As it does so, it sees Scarlett's throwing star and has a memory of her. This snaps the clone out of Cobra's mind control. It slaughters the nearby Vipers and steals their rifles. In the sky above, the C-130 circles the island. The Joes flying support are monitoring Cobra Command communications and hear a Tele-Viper exclaim that Snake-Eyes has been cloned. They now fear the presence of two hostile Snake-Eyes on the island. Scarlett and Stalker parachute out, with great haste. In the jungle, Wade and Tommy are engaged with Vipers and Alley Vipers in a holding action. Wade is holding compression on his right torso side with his left hand. The Vipers call for reinforcements. Wade states the obvious about the LRRP group being partially back together, and it makes the reader wonder if Wade and Tommy have seen each other since the destruction of the Cobra Consulate building in New York. As the WHALE waits vulnerably on shore to be a means of egress, the clone continues slaughtering Cobras in the lab. It is using the weapons of Alley Vipers against its adversaries. Scarlett and Stalker arrive at the jungle battle to assist Wade and Tommy. Laura and Snake-Eyes Sean arrive at the WHALE, as Snake-Eyes Dawn and Cobra Commander come running out of the trees and converge with them. It is never discussed how Dawn and The Commander escaped the prison. He still wears his helmet, so ostensibly it was not due to her idea to use his explosive helmet. Or, perhaps the reader is to assume that is the means of escape and that the explosives were removed. Cobra has now sent the casino Fembots into the jungle as reinforcements, and those gigantic jetpack jets. Scarlett downs a jetpack Viper. The LRRP squad makes plans to rescue the clone. Alpha 001 decides that helping Cobra defeat the Joes with the Fembots would bring too much attention to their operations. So, in order to keep a low profile, Alpha orders the Fembots to hijack a cruise liner. One Fembot is given commands to utilize the downed jetpack jet to attack the C-130. A HISS Driver is catapulted, flaming, through the jungle as the WHALE arrives as a cavalry and explodes a HISS tank. The combined rescue and assault teams consider their options. To attack the front of the casino would mean dead hostages. Laura explains the existence of a back door to the lab, against the protests of Cobra Commander. Great celebration is held. The clone has arrived at the loading bay doors. The WHALE bursts through the loading bay doors. Scarlett and the clone embrace. We can see that the clone has a full head of blond hair under its mask, and can speak. Cobra Commander yowls in offense as the combined Joe force declares war on Khan and Mindbender. They will continue into the casino. In the lab, Khan declares resolve and Mindbender ominously suggests using the zombie bomb. So Khan arms the bomb and Mindbender regrets his decision. The C-130 has been hit! An engine is destroyed as the C-130 plummets from the sky in an uncontrolled spin. The Joes aboard fear for their lives as equipment strains against tie-downs and as they struggle to hold on tight. The plane is in wild descent and Wild Bill fears he will not regain control before their flaming deaths in the explosive fireball as they die in the jungle below. And thus ends GiJoe: A Real American Hero. The final issue says goodbye to the full team of America’s most popular soldiers including Snake-Eyes Dawn, Snake-Eyes Sean, Scarlett, Stalker, Storm Shadow, Wade Collins, Laura, Duke, Wild Bill, Deep Six, Cutter, Shipwreck, Rock and Roll, Roadblock, Gung Ho, Cover Girl, Lady Jaye, Jinx, and a Snake-Eyes clone thingie. The End.

So from what I've heard, Larry will be continuing this in the next publisher's book. I really hope that after the immediate plot threads get resolved and everyone is safe back at Joe HQ, that editorial puts him on 1 of 2 mandates.
1. Stick to the small scale single issue or 1-2 issue stories. When Larry is focusing on a tight group and everything hasn't gotten away from him he still writes some excellent characters. Character has always been his strength. Just look back at Special Missions or the more recent Untold Tales he did after the #250 boondoggle. 2. If he is going to write larger grand arcs then editorial has to impose some plotting and review requirements. As late as a few years ago he had said that he still writes one page at a time and doesn't know where he is going to end up. This works for small stories. But when he tries to do these event arcs he keeps letting everything get out of hand, writes himself into a corner, and has to resort to ninja-godmode-sue-deus ex machina to solve everything without a "rocks fall, everyone dies" ending. So, either tightly focused one-off missions and character studies, or editorial control of plotting. One of the two needs to happen. |

I had to think about this: I love the thread, and part of me hoped the board would start a read through AGAIN. But, that?s easy for me to say/hope when Im not the guy posting reminders every week or writing in depth summaries and reviews. So I say sticky it! (And thanks to those made it such a great thread!)

Thanks to Mainframe77 for creating this thread, and to Nero9000, Sean C, ozzie92, turner, AWOL, and all the rest of you over the years for keeping this thread alive and moving right along! I want to take a moment to thank Mainframe77 for his many years of keeping this thread going and organized on a weekly basis. Back in 2016, Mainframe77 launched this review thread. It has been a regular touch-point for many of us for so long.
