This wasn't one I worked on. I like the drawing, but I see the point a lot of people are making. I personally don't do "cheesecake"type art, and in general I think the Baroness is portrayed as a very sexual character. I think that's put on her by the fan base and less how she acted in the comics and cartoons. She had an overt relationship with Destro, and since she displayed those feelings through those stories we sexualize her because of it.
I see two kinds of Baroness pictures. 1 - drawn for the purpose to make her look sexy and lustful and/or 2 - drawn to show her look imposing, dominant and capable. The absolute best Baroness images are a combination of the two. Hands down. I think when the object of the drawing is strictly the first option...That's when I see less of her character and more of a pin up. personally, I don't care for that. Just my opinion. Also, yes these are just images drawn and put on the cover of the comic as a fun gimmick and shout out to the carded figures. This is a comic based on a toy line, and we're blatantly showcasing that. it's just a fun idea, nothing more to look into it than that. |

The problem here is that Baroness was established with a certain look. And it doesn't feel true to the established character to redraw her looking that different from her original look. If they want to draw a character with D or higher cup breasts, they can do Bombstrike. And it's not like the Baroness needs the giant boobs given that her outfit is already sexy. Not quite sure how big Elizabeth Hurley's are, but the size looks more reasonable in this picture. Last edited by JediJones; 06-25-2015 at 05:29 PM.. |

I'm not comfortable with a "boob-size canon bible" for the Baroness.
I've seen depictions of her looking homely and scrawny, also stacked, also femme fatale... I'd hate to see any one determination for her look. I think the art is good. The KILLER art is the action figure itself, and I agree that I want that figure and a whole LINE of figures in that design style... But back to the point, it's cool to see artists with different takes on her. Each depiction brings something different to the character and I don't think she always has to be represented "the same." |

Baroness looks fine. Jesus. Whatever happened to creative expression?

No she doesn't. Each breast is as big as her head.
These are licensed characters with a specific look. They can't just suddenly shave Scarlett's head, give Jinx a sleeve tattoo, and make Lady Jaye 300 pounds in the name of "artistic expression." If they want to express themselves by drawing characters with those traits, they need to invent their own characters, not change ones that have already been established and are trademarked by someone else. Licensors reject depictions of their characters they find objectionable all the time. In this case, Hasbro needs to put some standards in place. The comic books will never appeal to a wider audience or to a kid audience with covers like this, so it's not in their interest to let this be published. |

Ron Rudat designed her that way. Hasbro had another sculptor shave her down without him knowing ( Operation Blast Off)
If there had been no comics code authority established back during the fifties when comics were deemed immoral and detrimental to America's youth then you would have seen similar covers back then, before then you actually did see covers like that. Thankfully the comics code authority was removed in 2009. Let us not go backwards. Hasbro does have standards. How soon we forget: Baroness by AdamHughes on DeviantArt

The Marvel comic debuted Baroness before Rudat designed the figure, so it would've been inconsistent to change her body style when the figure came out 2 years later.
Power Girl came out in the '70s, so the comics code wasn't preventing any character from having big breasts by that point. This discussion isn't about anything relating to censoring or sexuality, it's about faithfulness to the character's look. I wouldn't object to a Bombstrike cover with boobs that big because that's what her character was always supposed to be about. I don't equate big boobs with sexuality. Her body looks fine on the Hughes cover but I can see why it was rejected for the orgasmic look on her face. This isn't G.I. Porn, it's G.I. Joe. Sexual content shouldn't be placed in a franchise that's built around selling toys to pre-pubescent children. You can buy all the Red Sonja and Dejah Thoris comics you want for that. Obviously it's only suggested sexuality on the Hughes cover but it's not hard to see once you look for it. |

Actually, though that Adam Hughes cover is sexy in its own way, it is not like the other. I'd prefer his depiction to be left off as well, but I don't mind it as much. His shows Baroness to be triumphant and powerful, and the shadowing leaves things to the imagination. Oh, and she has her armor on. Also, the IDW universe is targeted more toward an older audience. ARAH has always been an all ages book. The cover for 216 shows a pin-up Baroness with painted on outfit, with not an evil or triumphant expression, but sex kitten seductive, despite the fact that she is holding weapons. I think the Joe community expects beter than that. Maybe it is a matter of taste, when all is said and done, but I would prefer that GI Joe be something that I could show my kids without cringing. I'd also like to be able to leave HISSTank up on my desktop without that image popping up a couple a times a minute.... If you want more adult themed images of Baroness, I am sure everyone here knows how to spell and operate google. I agree with JJ, and Hasbro should be a little more discerning with how their characters are portrayed. They struck out on this one. The whole purpose of the cover was to depict a mock-up like the original card art, this does not accomplish that in tone or execution. Plus, in my personal opinion, the computer effects on it are poorly done.

The idea is awesome! My only criticism is that the Baroness looks too young. In order for her to have such rich background and experience by the time she joined Cobra, she would have to be in her late 30s early 40s, but some artists make her look like she's 20 something. That's silly.
