I lost interest in SE years ago after he started taking up too much space in the book in a repetitive way. I don't mind him being gone, but I also don't see the point in effectively giving us a new SE. Either kill SE or don't. I suppose you could say that this is very similar to when Fred VII killed CC and took his place - that actually worked out in an interesting way. But that was because he was masquerading as CC and the other Cobras too a while to catch on.
Honestly, the story arc with the eye and giant robot and return of Serpentor has just been abysmal. |

I think it should be that storm shadow takes his body to that machine on cobra island that brought serpentor to life and him back to so it can to bring snake eyes back.g.I.Joe is nothing without snake eyes.

How can they kill Snake Eyes? He's a original, an original! He died a little heroic, but he could've died a more heroic way, and a lot more later in the series. Honestly, I never read a G.I. Joe comic, but I've posts that collectors have made about Snake Eyes in the comics. He was essential to the comics in my opinion, but I kind of understand why IDW killed off Snake Eyes. They wanted to introduce Throwdown, and I like how they let him take Snake Eyes's mask. But in a way it's disrespectful, because that's Snake Eyes mask. I'm curious to how this carries out, but I doubt if character will be as important as Snake Eyes was.

That's just crazy i read this on the Facebook post.I'm not a Huge fan of him like Flint or Duke but, he was still a Bad Ass and Always will be. I'm not very happy about this decision to kill him off and in such a disrespectful manner. He will always live on in my daughter's and my Collection. RIP Snake Eyes.

The question is...was this a cheap death? Of course it was because Snake Eyes was such a larger than life character and part of the team. Snake Eyes is the Wolverine or Boba Fett of GIJOE, there is no question of that.
It would not matter if Snake Eyes killed the leader of Cobra and half of Cobra Island while preventing someone from pressing the nuclear button before he went out. We have all pondered who or what could take out Snake Eyes? At least he did not slip in the shower, bang his head on the tub, and drown because his toe was in the drain. There is no acceptable death for Snake Eyes. No action grand enough to meet our expectations. Any method is doomed to raise the ire of the readers. I do have to say this is the most discussion I have seen regarding any of the comics in some time and that is exactly what was needed. Even the IDW boards have only a few posters that discuss regularly. It is too bad that a momentous event had to take place to generate more discussion and bring posters out of the woodwork. Snake Eyes is an iconic character shrouded in mystery. There is no mystery to his protege. We know Sean Collins (who is not Kamakura) very well. Larry Hama did indeed say at Joecon one year that the center of his GIJOE is Snake Eyes. He made him what he is today. We now have an opportunity to find out a whole lot more about the character. The reactions of the Joes and the Cobras should be the focus of the next few issues. Scarlett Stalker and Storm Shadow's reactions in particular. they have no recourse. Serpentor is dispatched, all they can do is celebrate Snake Eyes' life and mourn. This ongoing tale is still going to be centered around Snake Eyes for several more issues. I agree that Snake Eyes is a huge part of GIJOE. I just feel that no matter how Larry chose to write his end, it would not be satisfactory to some. He went out rescuing Scarlett, Duke, Roadblock, Colton, and anyone else in the PIT. The PIT itself was under the control of Serpentor. It was a dire chaotic situation. Serpentor had also just beaten the crap out of Snake Eyes. Serpentor was using him as a human shield. It was only a small window of time when Throwdown disabled the robot in which Snake Eyes, who was laying on the floor after being tossed like a rag doll by Serpentor, was able to make that last effort and make a split second decision to save his fellow team and friends. The passing of the knife, the revelation of the Arashikage tattoo, the disfigurement and yes, the donning of the mask are all likely symbolic. Unless the Joes want to keep his death a secret, I don't see Throwdown taking Snake Eyes' look. I don't think Scarlett, Storm Shadow or Stalker would even allow it. Throwdown in fact, will mourn just as much for the Shadow Man as they do. Snake Eyes was the one who wrote him the letter, Snake Eyes felt an obligation to help steer this young man on the right path because of what happened to Wade Collins in Vietnam that made him turn to Cobra. Like Clutch said, he never got a knife from Snake Eyes' collection. Snake eyes was a mentor and role model for Sean, we were not privy to that side of the story and I think we will see more of that influence in the future. Snake Eyes did die a hero. Snake Eyes can always come back Hama just has to figure out the way to write him back in. When he does that will generate a lot of discussion as well. Count on it.

Needless to say, spoilers ahead.
Haven't read the comics, but the way people describe it tells me it's like a marketing gimmick -- create a big event to get people talking about it and boost sales. That in itself is neutral, IMHO, but I suppose the handling could have been better. And he dies in an explosion. And no body was recovered. I've watched enough action TV and movies from the 1980s and 1990s to know that this is a classic storytelling tactic. Snake Eyes lives. Or he will be if interest is generated.

If Snake Eyes was going to go then the only way that would explain all of the jams he got himself and others out of all these years would be if he did it to himself. Not reading the issue that seems to be what he has done but to do so in order to kill or take out something is not in his character. To do so in order to save someone, like Scarlett, duke, even Storm Shadow etc would have been a more appropriate sacrifice.
And I agree to the prior comment that to kill Snake Eyes only to replace him with a lesser copy is pointless.
