Read it tonight.
Liked Dixon's story. Loved the Baroness in it. The only issue was the art and I usually like Gulacy. He normally does great work, but not in this issue. There was a lot of jumpiness to it, not smooth storytelling at all. It made the action hard to follow in parts. And in a couple of spots the wrong characters moved. Beachhead loads the EMP shell but it's Tripwire that shoots it. The art really affected the overall story. I like what Dixon is setting up with the more clandestine Joe team, but not sure how it aligns with Flint's team over in Cobra. One is more Direct Action and the other is more intelligence? And when did Bildocker get fat? Strong story, weak art. Which sucked because Gulacy is normally better then this.

Nothing has really changed with Dixon's writing like when he wrote G.I. Reloaded a few years back. He's just adding in more action, style over substance, Twilight relationships, characters with very little intelligence and development (whatever was gain in the last series is long gone), and deaths for shock value and "Oh My God!" moments.

Except there were no deaths in this issue.

I enjoyed the issue. For being a first issue, it set up the story ide pretty well, but like the flagship title, failed to explain a few things.
Like why do they not have the funding that the main team has? Yes the art was a little rough. I didn't think it was too bad, but it wasn't pheonominal. The female's necks kinda bother me. I'm in for the long haul, and I enjoyed it.

They're off the books. The public team, Duke's team, everything is public record. Scarlett's is completely off the books.
I think the last issue of the previous Joe volume, Dixon's last, explained that a little better.

I liked the first issue and had hopes that Van Lente could make Hashtag work.
Lost those hopes with #2

I felt that hastag is about to go through something that will change her. Her having shot that american, right after he had finished explaining what a good person he was..hahaha.
She annoys me but her chemistry with the other female members made up for it. Now it seems like she will be mainline chameleon. |

What chemistry with the other female members?
Doc came across as "I'm forced to deal with this person" and Cover Girl was (rightly) downright hostile.

How did this thread turn into GIJOE #2?
Anyway. I didn't mind this issue, but I really wish they would follow the standalone formula and have each issue be one mission. Let the other two titles tackle the larger intertwining story arcs. Give us a few joes in each issue of Special Missions or one member on a solo mission, somewhat unrelated to the main arc. I did like the introduction of Zarana, if that was indeed Zarana. I know the whole trade paperback formula, have to run six issue arcs, etc etc. I just don't think you always have to do that, especially when the Special Missions formula both past and recently, worked just fine.
