Question: I never read the previous IDW series that was canned in favor of this one. Did they at least completely wrap up all the ongoing story lines in that one, or did the book just end abruptly? The answer to this will influence how much of a chance I give the new book...if they just gave the old book the axe and screwed the readers that were already invested, who's to say they won't do it again?

I realize a lot of Joe fans have disliked this new relaunch but I found van lente's issue fun and entertaining-something dix's work never did for me. Arah is "my real Joe's but I think I might enjoy this run until they relaunch ANOTHER time. And I like seeing more hasbro designs utilized. Costa is great and I hope the hardcover g.I. Joe idw collection includes everything from the revamp including infestation-cobra-and all the origins. Speaking of which- where's monk? He was awesome and tied pretty closely to krake. But I still like arah the best. I cannot wait to see sl gallant illustrate the red shadows. I have both loved and hated the revamp but I haven't quit yet.

Hashtag is the worst idea for a character ever, however. I get what the decision-makers were going for...they know social media is "big" right now and they want to make the book look "cool" and "relevant" to the kids and all, but...no. Hashtag just makes the book look completely out of touch, as of the creators were desperately clutching at straws to be hip. They're trying too hard.
I suspect Hashtag has a purpose. The point also isn't the writers wanting the book to be hip...it's the in-universe pencil-pushers and politicians wanting G.I. Joe to be "hip" and "relevant" in-universe. Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't the actual Joes commented in-book on what a terrible idea Hashtag is? It's (perhaps) some underlying commentary on why bad things tend to happen when politicians get too involved in micromanaging the military. As far as Hashtag's purpose, call me cynical, but I suspect she very well may not survive the first story arc. In fact, she'll probably get killed right after she does something that gets the audience to warm up to her. And then some of the same people saying they hate her now will be decrying that she was killed off before her potential was realized, etc... |

Ran to my local comic shop on my lunch from work and grabbed this issue.. They only had 1 copy left and I went in when they just opened! (they save for people who order everyweek/month). Guy said they dont order very many, the readership is so low compared to Marvel and DC. Anyways also picked up a Gijoe Special Missions #1 and a Issue of Marvel Gijoe to make it to the $10 needed to pay by card

Was disappointed in it.
I was going to give Hashtag a chance, but she blew it in this issue. ROTC and doesn't believe in guns? I know that it's fairly common with people taking advantage of the ROTC program to get a college education but didn't expect to see it in the comic. She never once had to shoot a gun during her time in the Army? It just didn't work right and didn't add up. She's naive enough to tweet their location? Really? General Colton wouldn't have given her a briefing of what she can and cannot tweet during an operation? Don't embedded journalists have rules on what they can and cannot do during the time they're with the unit? I'd say releasing information sensitive to the mission as well as the operatives would be on the no-no list. She tells Doc that she's a medic and in the army? The army has medics, not sure what that has to do with the "don't believe in guns". It was nice to see some of the Cobra operatives, but in a way it didn't make sense. Darklon and the IGs work for Cobra? Since we had never seen the IGs, or Darklon, before and what their relationship to Cobra is; the whole appearance just felt like "let's throw some recent designs in there that are recognizable".

Sigh.... Haters gonna hate. Of course, in my case, lovers gonna love.
I enjoyed this issue even more the first! I feel like all the questions we've been asking about Hashtag will be answered and the dialogue is extremely entertaining. 4/5 It's a fun ride.

I liked the first issue and wanted to give Hashtag a chance.
The second issue just wasn't as good.

I liked #2. I liked hashtag more this go round with her being forced to step up and use a gun- and I did think it was completly believable that she would be tweeting her location while they were fighting- that's something that people do today(not me- i'm not a big fan of the 'post every moment of my life' crowd- but that's what a blogger does.) I hope being forced into action will change that, and put an end to her rookie mistakes- but I could easily see her learning to use that to the Joe team's advantage. I'm pretty excited for the next issue- and that's about all one can hope for in a storyline.
