I wonder what Jamal Igle is up to? He is a great artist. I'd love to see him on a Joe title. He is also a pretty cool guy. He used to post regularly on a board I used to frequent several years back. I always like to support his work, but I admit I don't know what he is doing now.

I will say this...I think the author has the right idea but it's not being executed well. I'm fine with melodrama within the team but you can do that without having terrible dialogue. I actually think the character of Hashtag should have been more of an Oracle/Barbara Gordon-like character. I also think the main characters should have their superhero costumes look at least similar or reminiscent of what their prior attire was. Shipwreck was fine and really Duke was okay too, but Cover Girl apparently scaled the multiverse and borrowed Scarlett's outfit from issue 153 of the original Marvel run. I also think if this title had its audience more defined or wasn't the flagship title then people who dislike it would probably be more forgiving of it. I'm not really sure what the point is with Hashtag. I liked the book well enough, but Hashtag being a college student is just one of the silliest things I have seen in a Joe comic since Transformers and cloned dead emperors. There may be a point the writer is trying to make, but I think you could make it with a young person with no combat experience who is actually in the military or in the CIA or FBI or something. It's so far from something that would happen in reality that it really hurts the book IMO.

I remember when people used to read comics and not complain about everything, man the companies can't seem to please anyone these days.
And good luck reading a comic where people don't come back from the dead if they were actually dead that's one of the oldest booksellers for comic companies.

Looks good to me.
Issue 1 was pretty good. A little slow. Mostly it just kind of feels disconnected from everything we have read up to this point. I like the artwork on this one much better. I feel like it allows my eyes to breathe. Some of the other books are either to crowded with details or too minimalistic to follow. I like the cast of characters. Hashtag is obviously just a plot device along the lines of Firewall (DDP), Daemon, Kamakura etc. I do not see her as a permanent member. She may actually be cannon fodder at some point. |

The art is terrible in this series. However, Croc Master is in the book, so I might have to give it a serious chance. It has potential.
Hashtag is the worst idea for a character ever, however. I get what the decision-makers were going for...they know social media is "big" right now and they want to make the book look "cool" and "relevant" to the kids and all, but...no. Hashtag just makes the book look completely out of touch, as of the creators were desperately clutching at straws to be hip. They're trying too hard. Question: I never read the previous IDW series that was canned in favor of this one. Did they at least completely wrap up all the ongoing story lines in that one, or did the book just end abruptly? The answer to this will influence how much of a chance I give the new book...if they just gave the old book the axe and screwed the readers that were already invested, who's to say they won't do it again?

I'll add this to my previous post. I think anyone who is actually upset about the other book ending, doesn't have that much to worry about. Special Missions seems to be a direct continuation of the style of that book and it has the same writer.

It did. This book really tackles one of the biggest open plots of the previous book. Cobra did a wiki leaks type thing and made GI Joe public. In this continuity the Joe team was ultra hush hush and members were officially dead. So that is the last thing Cobra did before the book ended. I mean there are some small things, but nothing major. I suspect some of them will be tackled by the previous series' writer who is now writing the new Special Missions book. So it's not a big deal with other book ending.
