Very good point!
Ok, I will issue the same challenge I did on the "hated the movie thread"- If you are a fan of ROC, tell me why it's good, but you CANNOT use the following reasons/ phrases: 1. It was good, but could have been better. 2. It was just great seeing Gi. Joe on the big screen! 3. My kids loved it! Sorry for those who already sick of this, but I have yet to hear a ROC fan who doesn't use at least one of these in their argument. I liked the plot, simple but effective, and actually makes alot more sense then alot of so-called "good" movies (Gladiator is a good example, I love that movie, great movie, but the basic plot just makes no sense, somehow Rome's greatest General when he returns he's still treated as a slave, and because he's good in the arena he's able to get Caeser into a personal fight and gets away with killing Caeser, it made no sense, but was still a great movie). The connections between the characters reminded me of the comic books. The "over the top" aspects reminded me of the cartoon. It had everything I look for in an action movie. I walked out and said "that was cool", which is my judgement of a good action movie. I enjoyed myself from start to finish. It was a fun ride.

The bottom line is, just like Costner's Robin Hood, it just is really enjoyable, though not any of it is going to rewrite movie history, a good definition of a popcorn movie. But the figures are the same. I'd never have bought Zartan or Budo had they not been Action Force/Joe - same with the comics or the animated movie. I like them because they represent the toys, not because of artistic merit. It's also true to say that the reasons you gave probably are the only reasons for liking the movie, and whilst they aren't necessarily 'good' reasons, they are nevertheless the way some people feel when they see it (I have verbal diarrhoea sooooooooooo bad!) |

Ok,
One specific thing that I didn't like (among so many others) Hasbro has made it pretty clear that a key brand recognition character and a fan favorite is Snake Eyes. Ray Park was probably if not one of the best choices for the character, whos soul form of expression is his martial arts! So WTF happened, when we get the big SE scenes you can't tell wtf is happening because the action so blazing fast it gives you a headach. instead of some ground breaking, whoa Snake Eyes IS a bad ass, fight scenes we get quick cut after quick cut shakey cam BS! IT was like watching a 1000 subliminal frames spliced together. And the costume just came off as fan made rather than big budget Hollywood to me! All this combined made a what could have been SE into a WTF did they do to SE! Does anyone else feel differently about this? (Just a question for sake of debate not a challenge for sake of arguement) |

Ok, I have three 3 more questions for you, (I'm like a frigging Bridge Troll!) 1. Did you prefer CC'S new look to the one we grew up with? 2. Did you like the Baroness' new origin better than the original? 3. Did you like Destro's head actually turning metal? (I honestly can't even type that without chuckling) Do you think ROC improved on the Gi. Joe mythos in any way? I wasn't too impressed with Gladiator either. |

Uh oh, a Gladiator Hater!

(I honestly can't even type that without chuckling) Do you think ROC improved on the Gi. Joe mythos in any way? I wasn't too impressed with Gladiator either. 1 - They're two different things. I don't think I would have liked the classic look in the big screen, but the updated one doesn't bother me. 2 - Doesn't matter. Two different things. One works for the comics, the other works for the movie. 3 - Yes and no. I think it works for the movie-verse. I don't think the head turned metal so much as the nano-mites made a mask alongside his skin to help protect it. I didn't go into RoC expecting ARAH, I knew and was expecting and was glad that it was something different. I don't think ARAH would translate well to "real life", don't think Resolute would either. So I just wanted RoC to be a good entry to the Joe universe. I knew this wouldn't be based on my G.I. Joe, but was a new Joe for a new generation (which is how the brand grows). And I wasn't disappointed, RoC is a good entry to the Joe universe. It had all the elements of Joe in it.

Agreed, one of the best scenes in that movie! I even liked the Anikin vs Obi Wan duel in ROTS, It was fast paced but the camera stayed with the shot long enough for you to follow the action!

Except for originality, creativity, and enjoyability...
You bring up a great point with Gladiator. Gladiator, while the plot was lacking, was one of the best films ever made. Why? Because of expert acting, great producing and direction, and top notch execution of scenery. RoC lacked plot AND lacked the acting, production, direction, and SFX that made Gladiator a good movie.

I completely agree, and this was one of the biggest gripes I had with the movie. People kept raving about the SE/SS fights, but frankly they weren't all that good because you could hardly tell what was going on. It's a silly way to get around having to actually choreograph a good fight.
