thought...
what if G.I.JOE 2 is equally as bad as the Transformers 2? everyone had started to accept TF for what it was after #1 and actually got excited for #2...then we all see it and unanimously agree that it sucked big ole donkey sack...(someone just trying to be contrary is gonna come in and disagree with that statement just because...but not now because i just stole their thunder..SUCK IT!) what if the pile of crap that is RoC, gets even worse in the sequel?! |

I'm black and wouldn't care if they changed Stalker's skin tone. It would certainly be weird considering his story in the JOE verse but I'd take it if it worked. SE and Scarlett should be together. It's one of the strongest story arcs in the joe mythology. Altering that makes no sense to me. But again, imo, commenting on the race of Ripcord who is now Scarletts potential love interest is lame. Again that leads me to think there other reasons why it irks someone. Scarlett is pretty hot in ROC and there are still people out there who find that kind of relationship disturbing. All anyone needs to say in the matter is that they don't like the relationship because she should love SE (and that change is bothersome as I mentioned above) or come right out and say they don't like the black/white relationship between Scarlett and Rip. Pointing out race has always been pointless.

[QUOTE=G.I.Eddie;966641]although it's not too big a deal to me, it is kinda stupid to make a change like that for what seems like PC reasons...it just seems forced...and like others have said, i'd be equally annoyed if they had made Heavy Duty a big white guy...and although it may not be a huge deal to you or i, it is perfectly okay if it is big deal to someone else and not neccessarily BS...just as well, that it bothers you so much about the Rip/Scarlett thing, someone else could care less...point is, it's okay for anyone to like or dislike anything about anything, whether you or i or anyone thinks its BS or not...
I agree G.I. Eddie. If it is about a race thing then say it, don't be PC. If it's only about the altering of the one of the best story arcs and relationships in G.I.JOE then say that. Putting black is unnecessary unless there's a different issue at hand. I don't care if they change characters sex or skin tone, the story to me is more important. Rip is a low-level character with maybe a dozen appearances in the Marvel run. Had Wayans played Stalker or some other black actor or a white actor, it would have been a different experience but one that would be changing the relationship we all know makes sense, SC and SE. Altering the story is the only problem, stressing black is still, imo, tired. I'm not trying to change anyones opinions, we probably agree that we'd rather have Scarlett love SE. He's not the black Ripcord he's Ripcord. I wouldn't stress white if the changed Heavy Duty's skin color. There are certainly big strong actors who aren't black that could make Heavy Duty work.

I hear that. I have no problem with Billy Dee Williams playing Harvey Dent in the 1st Batman movie, and I love Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, it was just weird with all the African Americans in Gi. Joe already, why they would pick such an obscure guy to have Marlon Wayans play.
But of all the problems I have with the movie, (the casting, acting, writing, horrible CG, etc) this one point isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I agree. Billy Dee, though he had limited screen time, was a potentially interesting as Dent. Sam Jackson is strong enough as an actor to carry such a iconic character. Making Rip black isn't a big deal and his relationship with Scarlett isn't horrible due to Rips skin tone. It's awful because SE and Scarlett have the only relationship in the Joe verse worth caring about. Sure SE and SS have a history. Destro and Baroness have one. But SE and Scarlett, it's tragic and throughout hundreds of comics we learn what they can't and will do for each other. Changing that was a huge mistake. Your also right, in the grand scheme of things pointing out the interracial relationship is or should be low priority. Lazy script and dialogue, lame story basically, would be the first place I'd start.

Couldn't even rip off a good bit.
You'd think a direct line of fire weapons system, on a mach 6 plus jet would utilize the fastest human reaction possible or a completely automated firing system. A fraction of a second means several thousand feet of travel. Nothing like trying to voice out a command word. Imagine trying to do that pulling any sort of G's. Clint and Firefox gets a pass. The man walks on water as far as I am concerned. He's made so many great movies I can live with one or two goofy bits. Grand Torino blew GI Joe out of the water in every way. Hell they should have had Clint play Hawk. Even at his age he would have made Quaid's performance look pathetic. If you want gruff hard ass military Clint is the man (Heartbreak Ridge). Now I don't hold a physics or engineering degree and I might be just some dumb grunt, but doesn't the N polar ice cap float? Don't icebergs float? Isn't ice less dense than water. Isnt ice made of fresh water and less dense than salt water. Doesn't ice contain billions of tiny air bubbles? Wasn't the ice pack floating above the cobra base the entire time? Why did it suddenly sink and crush the base when the demo went off? Ripcord was Jet rated? WTF is that supposed to mean? He trained to fly f16s so it's cool for him to pop into that b52 and take it for a spin? Well I could probably spit bile at this film all day. Atleast I can wash the funk off with some classic animated Joe and Resolute. I do have one other good thing to say about ROC and its toy line. All the 25th ROH toys are on sale now! |

Hopefully, you're not wising off, but I have written several things for humorpress.com and a few other publications in the past. I took a few years off (more than a few, actually). And I'm under contract not to discuss any of the licensed properties I'm currently developing comics for. Let's just say that any G.I. Joe movie I would have written would have blown this one away and this entire argument for and against would slant more towards the "like it" column. Hell, I would say it's safe to say a lot you guys out there could have come up with something better.
What the folks who do not understand about the point of an argument is that people argue not to be mean, but they argue when there is something to say when something is wrong, stupid, and utterly ridonkulous. This movie fits that bill to a tee. Arguing is supposed to show that something is so important that they will do anything to save the situation they believe to be wrong by trying to make an argument to help fix it, or make others understand. I'm sure Larry Hama got into shouting matches with the morons behind this movie. Like me with my current writing projects in development, Hama can't discuss certain things about what he really thinks about this movie. I could be writing a G.I. Joe comic, and wouldn't be able to say something either way; but my vocal disdain for this movie has made me strive to make sure fans and non-fans of my project aren't fed junkfood. My lips are sealed on this and other things. There was that one story proposal of mine where Junkyard meets Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and they told me to leave the building. Actually, they put me in an accelerator suit, and threw me out the nearest window; and landed forty stories down on the street without breaking my shins. They should get the BSG writing staff to do the next G.I. Joe movie, and buy out all the actors' contracts and start over with an all new cast and premise based closer to the more successful incarnations of our beloved G.I. Joe. They started over with the Hulk franchise (which really isn't going anywhere) and Batman movies, too. We should petition Paramount to make something better. LOL. I can't understand how people can like a movie like this, but they hated an equally crappy movie like Thunderbirds. They belong in the same pile. Oh and I don't wise off........I like to take in and analyze everything. Again you claim to have credentials that make you a better writer than Stuart Beattie so it would be in the realm of possibility that someone would ask what you have written. Not trying to flame you at all. But if I was being wise its pretty silly to ask being that you don't intimidate me from your computer........LOL. |

Hey guys? Better be careful. Since your thread doesn't bow down and worship and the mighty ROC, it's likely to get yanked or buried like my thread did that only pointed out D9 outperformed ROC last week at the box office (Thread title: District 9 on pace to dethrone ROC).
Seems if certain moderators don't agree with what you have to say? They have no problem denying you your freedom of speech and deleting what you have to say. With this step? Hisstank has officially become a hostile web-site which opposes the very concept that GI Joe has been sworn to defend. The irony is not lost on me. I strongly suspect that there will be a cracking down on threads that cast a critical eye on ROC. I urge all of you to carefully consider what sort of future lies ahead for you on this site if they show no remorse or rational reason for moving threads or deleting them other than the simple fact of they don't like what you have to say. Without opposing view points? Intelligent conversation has died and there is no real reason to post on here any more. As for me? I'm outta here. You can not win wars with mods and I have better things to do. I do offer this warning: Since I was a mod myself on a different web forum? Depending on the set-up? Mods and admins can sometimes view private messages between members, and Mods sometimes have the ability to view your computer's ISP number. Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want that information in the hands of someone who isn't above the tactics displayed on here. You can change your ISP sometimes by unplugging your modem for a few minutes in case you're interested. xhairs, Firefly and the rest? It's being cool knowing you guys. I'll drop you a PM with a junk e-mail in case you want to chat further. Cheers~! |
