Let me first start out by saying that I've been a fan of GI Joe forever. I like the vintage figs more than the modern era. I got all wrapped up in buying the 25th figs, I bought all the stuff that came out up through wave 9. I lost interest after that, much like I did midway through 1988, but none the less it's Hasbro that changes my mind on what I want to buy. In the 80's it was getting too Sc-Fi, now twenty some years later I see the same thing happening. Now I know these are made for kids in mind, but isn't it really us collectors that have kept this line going all these years? You'd think as a smart business move Hasbro would listen more to the "TRUE" fans of GI Joe, and give us what we want. I have yet to see a kid in the aisles at a store looking at them. I'm not saying they don't, but more big kids (adults) buy them. I could only imagine how much more money I would've spent if they produced more of what the fans want. Am I the only one who feels this way about the ME, or ROC figs?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that the hardcore fan from 20 years ago is not where the money is at. I'm pretty sure we're only a small slice of the pie chart compared to the droves of kids buying most of the stuff. So, Hasbro wants to capture and cater to them.

With all due respect, many of us have had this similar rant so to speak. Hasbro will produce what sells, and look for ways to revive and innovate their products to adjust to the market accordingly. At the end of the day, Big Daddy Hasbro cares only about whether or not they are turning a profit. There are tons of figures/characters we'd all love to see produced. But, it's up to the market research teams to see if making these figures is a profitable venture. Apparently this is not the case, but we can always keep our fingers crossed.

With all due respect, get off of the "True Fan" soap box. I'm a real fan that has been collecting since 1982. Many people probably are bigger fans than you, have more toys than you and have supported the line more than you.
Sense of entitlement = FAIL "ZOMG TRUE FANZ!" are getting a new rage, new battle stations, a snow cat.... As for realistic figures...Snow Job & others are a perfect fit. Fans received what they wanted via the 25th...but of course, it's never enough. Not really sure how many times Hasbro had to say "HEY! WE'RE SWITCHING GEARS SOON!".... But oh well...I guess us "Fake Fans" will look forward to what's on the horizon while the "REAL FANS" can collect whatever eBay has to offer in relation to ARAH. |

You are not the only one! With all due respect to CIAD, we just have to exercise our rights as consumers. I hated the movie and can only write letters to Hasblo to tell them so. Maybe they will listen.
That said, the new Joecon figures shown kick some ass and I will buy them for sure. I actually think the new figures shown at Joecon look more realistic than ever. True, some figures have flying 'batwing' packs but is that any more different than the old Glider from back in the day? I never seen a real US Army hang glider. How about the Hiss Tank? Never seen a tank with a clear canopy because the driver would be blown to bits. G.I.Joe is a fantasy so just cut them so slack. I have to backtrack a little again and say the movie really did bottom out and take a dump on the carpet but the stuff they are spinning off of the movie in the upcoming waves kick some ass! Just look at the accessories and things, it is pretty realistic all things considered. Compare these upcoming things to the "Original 13" and you will think the old stuff is some kind of retard squad from some boys ranch. I mean have you ever seen the original head to Zap and Grunt? The sculpt looks like some kind of retarded/deformed Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from the Matrix). Keep the faith good stuff on the way!!!!

I agree with CIAD. The 25th line had it's run now it's looking like we are getting the next evolution of GI Joe. We are still getting the the characters we love and in the same format, 3-3/4". Did you see the new Snow Job? Just the back pack alone is already made my jaw drop. Did you see the details on the Jungle Duke? And you're going to tell me you like the older figures better. The ones that looked like elongated dwarfs with down-syndrome.
Have you stopped to think maybe this is what the majority of the fans want. I have been collecting GI Joes since 83-84 and I consider myself a "true fan". And this new direction that HASBRO is taking is what I want.

So was the new HISS Tank (both of them). I like the motor cycle battle armor as well, very Robotech. I was so excited I called my girlfriend to tell her even though she probably doesn't care. |

I think I'm developing a modicum of respect for people like the OP here. I'm not a huge fan of the constant whining on here by their ilk, but I respect the fact that they can step back and say "No, that's not for me". I wish I had such discretion, and the ability to walk away from the line. My bank account would love me more if I was so resolute in my preferences.

The "True fan" expression, and many of the people who use it as some kind of badge of superiority, makes me boggle.
Is a 'true fan' someone who dismisses (usually with a bizarre sense of pride) anything that came after 1987? Is a 'true fan' someone who embraces the spirit of GI JOE and appreciates it in different forms? Is someone who gets into Joe as a result of the film not a 'true fan'? Or maybe there's no such thing. You're either either a Joe fan or not - You accept which aspects of Joe you like and which you don't, and that choice will be different for everybody. A person creating some ludicrous, nebulous title to make them feel 'more' of a fan than someone else (ergo making their opinion more 'valid', of course!) is destined to create division and argument. ...just in my opinion of course.
