I can't believe people like HARRY POTTER films, I can't believe people like LOST, I can't believe people liked the recent STAR TREK film... But that's the way it is. I don't go round scratching my head worrying about such things. Why people forget the saying "one man's meat is another man's poison" when it comes to films is beyond me.

Ummm, Transformers 2 had way worse acting it was crap. at least i didn't cringe when people were speaking or yelling. (BUMBLEBEE!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO!!, camshafts) This GI JOE movie felt like the first transformers movie, it was fun to watch, highly entertaining and to see the characters come to life. Rating this for pure entertainment i would give gi joe 10 and TF 1 9.5 and TF 2 a 4. |

Disclaimer: The following thoughts are representative of me - in no way am I insinuating that other Tankers should feel the same.
I saw the movie - I enjoyed the movie. But now two days later it finally sunk in why I didn't love the movie. There was not enough nostalgia instilled into the movie. I agree with some of the Tankers sentiment in that a movie like Transformers 1 was excellent because it made the viewer remember what it was like to the be five years old sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday morning. Transformers 1 had the voices, the quotes from the animated movie and just enough to make you remember why you loved playing with the toys for hours on end. G.I Joe Rise of Cobra missed that feeling, I believe that more references to the comic or the cartoon could have be injected in and the movie would not have missed a beat. Also I note that the few times they did inject something like that they sort of missed the mark...i.e Hawk deadpanning that "knowing is half the battle" - very groanworthy. Jinx (or who we suspected was Jinx) was shown, why not add more "cameos" of characters. Who wouldn't have loved to see Flint hitting on Lady Jaye or Mutt w/ Junkyard watching the Joe's train. Other scattered thoughts. Snakeyes, in my mind, would have been better played by someone like Doug Jones. I always thought of Snake as being tall, lean and agile with super fluid motion. I know it's blasphemy to some people to think anyone other than Ray Park should have been Snake-Eyes but he looked like a short fire-hydrant in black rubber actually. Doug Jones with more of a Resolute Commando Style is what I would like to see for the sequel. Storm Shadows death is not permanent but I think we'll see Firefly in the sequel. Rachel Nichols = curvy hotty goodness. Marlon Wayans - actually I think he pulled it off very well. Might be my favorite Joe from the move. The CGI when the Howler was landing in the desert looked aweful. Sgt Stone sucks - should have been Beachhead training them. I believe that Sienna Miller as the Baroness worked well and that an accent would have turned that role into complete trash. Heavy Duty always looks like he has a beer gut. |

they really should have gone through more trouble to show individual Joes throughout the Pit. as it was, the team simply came across as a few specialists and a bunch of grunts. it was very generic and never felt like the type of G.I. Joe team it is supposed to be.

That's good. What's that got to with others being entertained by it? You weren't, others were. End of story.

I seen it twice and both times were bad, except the second felt alot better with my son there to watch it with him. I know its for a new generation and I'm all for that, but why not give us die-hard fans a little more to nibble with a few scattered cameos, some reconizable vehicles, maybe someones name thrown out that we might reconize. I'm not surprised how many people liked the film, especially HissTank members.(no dissrespect) The first time I went was for the midnight screening which was just filled with fan boys and girls alike, and they seemed dumfounded, and quiet for the most part. I was there in my G.I.Joe Snake-Eyes shirt and I had two figures with me from the ROC line; Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow. When the movie ended, all I could hear were, WTF's, giggling(not the good kind), complaints about Baroness(I think it was a trick, she'll be bad come pt.2), and just plain verbal disappointments.
The second time, it was with the general public and they loved it. The were laughing(the good kind), excited by the action, and in awe of the the Joe's vs Cobra on the big screen. I did feel some of there energy and enjoyed it a little more. Plus with my son by my side telling me everytime Snake-Eyes was on the screen, or saying, "Hey dad, you have that toy", it just made me feel giddy and happy to be a Joe fan regardless of my disdain for the film. So, now I sit here and type my feelings about the film, without malice, without regret, and filled with anticipation for a sequel. Bring it on!
