I was never a Hater, and I thought it would be fine. But I can't help but feeling really disappointed. I can't put my finger on any one thing there were just too many things. Certain things that didn't bother me weren't all that great. So I'm here to see if someone can figure it all out for me.
I'm not going to cry about it raping my childhood or anyting, but this could have been so mch better. The things that were different than the Joe I grew up with didn't bother me so much, but they did because when they were dumb. The Duke, Baroness, Rex family tree probably bothered me the most, but the amount of time spent on that just so the ending could tie in nicely just was so poorly put together. I guess they felt they needed to explain these people's motivations, but why? Can't the Baroness just be an evil person? Can't Cobra Commander just be evil? Do they have to be related and then Duke has to be her fiance? I actually didn't mind Ripcord. He probably was more true to the campiness of the old Joe Cartoons than anyone. Dennis Quaid is a better actor than this. IS this The director's fault or the writers that he just came across a little cheesy? I did not mind the nanotech, but it was too much. The over the top tech with the Nanotech, pulse weapons, and the accelrator suits bothered me not because of it being too techy, but because the joes had to rely on tech to beat it. But I was never into Sigma Six so this kind of relates to that. I guess I would have loved if they just added a ton of characters in every scene so I could have left with a fanboy erection. This would be my suggestion for the sequel. Even if they get just one line. How many lines did Boba Fett get? My first thought when leaving, "I hope they make a sequel so they can make it better" But who am I kidding. I'm just glad Snake-Eyes is still cool even after this debacle. |

I want to see the Alternate Version.
There must be an Alternate Version, because I see people in other threads raving about how "wonderful" it was and "How much they loved it". I now must question my own sanity, because either those people are stark-raving lunatics, or I am. Or there must be another version of this movie I haven't seen. I rank this piece of garbage LOWER than the Masters of the Universe movie. When I thought up this term I was being sarcastic and a little demeaning, but it appears to be the veraciousness this of statement is extremely accurate. The people who liked and in the case of people who loved this movie are in every sense of the words, "Yo Joe Lemmings." I have a very hard time believing that if this movie had characters that weren't named after the Joes and this movie was called something other than G.I. Joe, that the proponents of the film would've even have seen it, let alone like it. What really pisses me off is that after all of his "research,"Stephen Sommers decided that out of 155 plus issues of the Marvel and other comics. That out of all the file cards he read, he decided that none of that material was strong enough to base a film on. If he was going to completely alter and transform G.I. Joe into something unrecognizable AT LEAST HAVE THE COMMON FUCKING DECENCY TO MAKE A GOOD MOVIE!!!! He couldn't even do that. If a G.I. Joe movie is going to be a colossal and epic cluster fuck, let it be a colossal and epic cluster fuck based on the source material, not on some jerk off director's vision of what he think G.I. Joe should be. It leads credence to the argument that if Sommers had struck closer the source material, maybe he would've made a better movie. Last edited by Fred Broca; 08-09-2009 at 10:16 PM.. |

On the other hand, it's also about "a guy who fell in love with a beautiful girl and broke her heart and couldn't face her and she disappeared for four years. All of a sudden he runs back into her and she's no longer the person he knew. And the movie is really about what happened to that girl."
WTF?WTF?WTF? She disappears and gee she's hanging out with Cobra? TF! Yes because thats all 12 year old boys want is a love story! DUDE THIS IS GI JOOOOOOOOOOOOE!!! The whole REASON that GI JOE was created was because boys didn't wanna play with Barbies you mf'ing moron! This movie and this Hollywood stuff is like some sick joke. This movie should have never happened. It's great to know they created a JOE movie by people who know NOTHING about GI JOE. WTF! This is how I feel A tough assignment for G.I. So I guess the whole Snake-Eyes/Scarlett, Destro/Baroness, Flint Lady Jaye thing in the comics and the whole Duke/Scarlett, Destro/Baroness and Flint/Lady Jaye thing in the cartoon never happened?
May not like it, but romance and interconnected relationships is part of G.I. Joe. It was in the source material, so it made it's way into the movie. And no, the movie wasn't bad.

I share your disappointment. If many people want to see District 9. In Indonesia many want to see Merantau (Wandering in english) instead of GI joe Roc since it is nearing our Independence Day and the Merantau movie itself gain positive reviews here.
