I enjoyed it quite a bit, I think it really had a "joe" feel to the movie overall, I really dont think I would change it in any way, its an evolution of g.i. joe that reflects back to the 80's and anyone who didnt like it was way too concerned with it "not being classic joe" and will pick it apart simply because its not what they think joe should be , it is closed minded to have that attitude ,you have to accept that in order for something like this to exist it must evolve in new formats, new universes and newly styled concepts I think if anyone who doent like it just lets go of the 8o's concept and watches it for what it is, would enjoy it, not to mention the people who have decided to hate it a long time ago and wouldnt like it no matter what out of spite and predispositions....

Absolutely loved the movie. I'm going to see it again on Sunday and then again next Friday at JoeCon. Four of my friends have seen it three times already and will be going for the fourth time at JoeCon. I am so excited for the franchise and really hope that this brings in more kids as fans.
The movie is what GI Joe has always been, a sci-fi fantasy with military mixed in. That's what it has always been and they did an excellent job translating that to the big screen. Duke was great as a young rookie, acclimating well to a whole new world opened up to him. Ripcord was spot on. I think Wayans nailed his character and I found myself laughing at nearly every one of his jokes. He and Duke played off each other nicely through the whole movie. Snake Eyes was awesome. I have no issue with anything he did. The mouth thing never bothered me. His original figure had a mouth, so this was no different. Ninja scenes and flashbacks were spectacular. Scarlett was hot and a dead-shot with her bow. I found myself enjoying the banter between her and Rip. Heavy Duty was a surprise. I found myself really liking his character. They took a character who had it's share of animosity from the fan community and gave him a distinct personality that separates him from Roadblock. Breaker I was fine with. Not the one we all grew up with, but I don't mind in the least bit. Hawk was awesome. Loved the character. Zartan wowed me. They took a character, changed him completely in terms of how he looked and how he changed disguises, and managed to hit it out of the park. He was sinister, still his own man, and the addition of the "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" (or The Bear Went Over the Mountain . . take your pick, haha) added a creepy side to him that I loved. Baroness was every bit the evil woman we all know and love. The backstory with her and Duke was an interesting one and I didn't mind it a bit. I'm wondering what will happen with her now that she's in jail and they're trying to take control of the nanomites. Should be interesting come next movie. Storm Shadow was lethal and spectacular. Ruthless in his killing, jealous in his relationship with Snake Eyes, he was flat out awesome. Will be interesting to see his part in the next movie. Destro was fantastic. From the opening scene to the end of the movie he held a dominating presence. The voice was great and his plan was spectacular. Will be interesting to see how his relationship with Cobra Commander develops in terms of whether or not CC will always have power over him with the nanomites or if he'll be able to break free. Neo Vipers were AWESOME. Seeing them in the movie gave the figures more weight and made them a lot more menacing. Elite Vipers and Eels are my favorites. Though they got their butts kicked, I loved them all the same. I haven't been this excited about a movie . . . ever!

Count me and my wife and buddy in! we loved it!
That accelerrator suit chase with Snake eyes and the Humvee was outstanding! I love the way Cobra kicked ass and was just as cool looking as I would expect them to be. I also really liked how they threw in nods to everything we grew up on! Yo Joe!

I really thought it was great. Will probably go see it again for sure. Even my wife loved it. Always good to get a different perspective from a non-die-hard-fan. She said it was easy to follow and was glad that they did some of the back stories. Baroness was awesome and SS was really slick. The Baroness/ Storm shadow team worked well.

Saw the movie this afternoon, so here's my (long-winded) review that I've posted elsewhere.
Just got back from seeing the movie, and I gotta say, I was floored the whole time. It was awesome! The entire time I felt like I was watching the cartoon itself come to life, only with a multi-million dollar budget. Despite some of the changes here and there, I felt the filmmakers perfectly captured the spirit and sense of fun that G.I. Joe is known for. I definitely felt like a kid again for two hours, sitting on the living room floor with my Joe toys and watching the cartoon. The action scenes were solid. (And, thankfully, actually capable of being followed without confusion or a need for motion sickness pills, unlike some movies in recent years.) Seeing Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow battling it out on the big screen brought a huge smile to my face. The Accelerator Suit chase through Paris was a big adrenaline rush. Loved it! The final assault on the Terror Drome brought back memories of Star Wars, from the barrage of "fighters" to the super pulse cannon. I also enjoyed all the little nods and in-jokes, from Heavy Duty's "kung fu grip" to Hawk's "Knowing is half the battle" to Kevin J. O'Connor's cameo as a character I didn't even think we'd see. For all the naysaying over Marlon Wayans and a Ripcord/Scarlett romance, I sat there smiling in satisfaction as I found Wayans damn likable and saw nothing even remotely resembling a romance. He flirted with her a couple times, which she never even really returned (aside from a typical good luck kiss), and that was it. She was clearly with Snake Eyes. Look at how she was leaning against his shoulder in the command room. Yeah, they definitely had something between them even if it wasn't deliberately stated. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was completely unrecognizable (literally and figuratively) as The Doctor. He was definitely channeling a bit of Chris Latta with that voice, and I just loved it. Christopher Ecclestone wasn't as physically intimidating as Destro (my favorite cartoon villain ever) always was, but I thought he still had a bit of menace to him. Channing Tatum, who I'd never even heard of until he was cast, I thought embodied Duke with a sense of charm, courage, and leadership that I've always envisioned Duke having. Dennis Quaid . . . well, what can I say? He is General Hawk, as far as I'm concerned. Arnold Vosloo turned Zartan in a cold-blooded psycho, and I loved it! The rest of the cast did a good job with their characters. A few times, I found myself a little surprised this got by with a PG-13. Whether it was Snake Eyes throwing Shurikens into Neo-Vipers' eyes, Scarlett's love for headshots, or the "melting" guy after the Accelerator chase, I was surprised at just how wicked some of the violence was in this movie. But I loved every second of it. The plot is fairly basic, but this is G.I. Joe after all. If it were any deeper and complex and more "realistic" (as some early scripts apparently aimed for), I'd be disappointed. When it's G.I. Joe, I want to see cool characters doing cool things and having cool action-packed adventures on a global scale. That's what I got from this film. If I had any complaints, they were minor. Killing off Cover Girl so soon was a shock. I think I had the same look on my face as Hawk did when it happened. I'm not sure I would have done that, but when you have as many characters as G.I. Joe has and can only make so many movies, I suppose it works to find ways to clear out room for others. Although I didn't mind The Doctor/Cobra Commander being a former friend of Duke, I do wish Baroness had been unrelated and acting on her own, rather than having been "programmed" to be evil. Or at the very least, she and Rex could have still been brother and sister, but she was working with him on her own. (It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in a sequel, though, and it's really the only aspect of the movie I didn't really like.) And I hated that when the movie ended, I was totally pumped up, the movie leaving me with a "I want more" feeling, and then the end credits kick in with that atrocious song that just totally destroyed the mood I was in. Ugh! Oh, and Cobra Commander's final guise. I thought it looked pretty cool, but in an interview Stephen Sommers explained that because it's still early in the film franchise's beginnings, things are still changing and there's a likely chance of bringing CC around to his more traditional look in sequels, and has expressed a love for the mirrored battle mask/helmet. (Which I always thought was better than the cloth hood anyway.) So that would be cool to eventually see that look introduced in the films. But other than that, I was damned satisfied with this movie, am looking forward to seeing it again, and will anxiously be awaiting a sequel if it happens. Stephen Sommers delivers again. "Yo Joe!" ****/***** |

To me it was good cheesy fun. my only complaint would be Destro's mask. If it was smoother and more menacing it'd be perfect. I don't want every detail in his face done in silver. hopefully they'll change that for the sequel. other then that it was an awesome flick done in the fashion of a roger moore bond movie or a classic creature feature.
