I'm a little conflicted. The talk of all the positive reviews being "plants" is absurd; almost to a man, they trashed TF2 (which deserved every word written decrying its stupidity and nonsense, but that's a separate issue) which is from the same studio. So how or why would Paramount decide to "buy off" all these internet film geeks when their overwhelmingly negative opinions did nothing to stop the success of TF2? At the same time, not screening a film for critics is a little offputting.

Well its not about poo or inappropriate sexual behavior, or inappropriate sexual behavior involving poo, so it holds no magnetism for me.

ironman and the dark knight were loved by critics and regular folks. both big action films. the unwillingness to show the film is a slap in the face to midwest folks. basically they are saying the critics want substance like good acting and a plot. lets show it to the people with low standards. we just want to make money. not a good film.

When "The Wizard of Oz" hit theaters in the '50's, critics at the time called it boring and unimaginative.
The last time I looked, critics were human beings, not all powerful gods, hell not even demigods. So I see nothing that makes their opinions more valid than that of the average American. In fact I find that many critics are so full of them selves that they will bash anything that they deem "below" their own "superior" standards no matter what the film is. I have a feeling that they would have raked this movie over the coals because it's based off of a kids toy. A bunch of pontificating demagogues if you ask me. I don't blame Paramount for the blackout. Too many people are too easily influenced and it would probably hurt the turnout. Who whas it that said: "I don't know much about art... but I know what I like."

Sometimes not showing to critics is even worse than showing to critics. Sometimes if people don't see a review for a film, no matter how good or bad it is, they automatically write it off as a bad film and won't even entertain seeing it.
Sometimes negative publicity is good publicity....Paramount should have just showed it to critics after the positive internet buzz.

On one hand this is a good idea, and on the other hand it looks like a weak movie.

No surprise that MSNBC would report something like that
