No, this is not about the friggin' sweet comic series, but the shows themselves.
I picked up season 1 of the Transformers when it came out (btw Shout Factory is amazing!) and watched it all in a bout 2 days. Some fun episodes and cool concepts, nothing too memorable though. Then, THEN I just recently got G.I. Joe season 1.1, man is it good! The first mini series is better than the whole first season of Transformers. Great writing, characters, and just plain fun to watch! It is clear to me that G.I. Joe had the better show. What do you, my fellow tankers, think?

I always liked GI Joe the best of all the 80s cartoons, but I loved Transformers too. I think what led me to GI Joe was the large number of interesting characters and the action figures which were just a few dollars. I loved Transformers, but never had any of the figures because they were relatively expensive so that further led me to be a bigger GI Joe fan.

Starscream will always be my favorite Hasbro character though, something about the sneaky evil little weasel that just makes him epic whenever he comes on screen!

Meh, both could have used some extra stuff, however, both were equally good for me until each respective movie, becasue of what came after. Galvatron was WEAK, and the DIC GIJOE series was WEAK too.

This guy's blog here pretty much sums my feelings, for the most part, of why I also prefer G.I. Joe over Transformers. I watched both as a kid, but only Joe has stuck with me all these years later.

I have the complete series of Transformers (from the Rhino days) and GI Joe (both bootleg with DIC & the Shout Factory series). After watching all of it... I say I agree. GI Joe was the series for me. I love them both, but Joe was the quintessential 80's cartoon for a kid that grew up with two military grandfathers that had lots of guns in their houses.
And, Nimoy's Galvatron was far superior to Welkers Galvatron. And the special feature DVD's in the SHout Factory Joe set are awesome, though I find that the guy who is the voice of Destro is a bit of a putz. |
