Ahh, the 200X MotU line...such wasted potential. Still missing a couple from that series that I really want, but was lucky enough to find almost all of the ones I wanted for decent prices.
MVC Comics? Were those the guys that basically got told "You can't really do anything that matters in your comics?" And I never managed to complete the 200X line either. I never did get a MOSS MAN...:( I did eventually track down a FAKER but had to pay a small fortune to secure it - 'Toyfare exclusive' my arse...

The title gets out the true feelings.

People have a tendency to base their opinion on what they believe and not actual facts. Emotion doesn't hold up and we all love the toys anyway. Star Wars, Transformers, Joes(all of which I personally collect), have all done well in RECENT years. But Mattel has lines that have been around and selling strong for years(like 30+). How many of you can actually remember going into a toy store and not seeing a Barbie or hot wheels? JMO

I honestly don't care for how MOTUC is being handled. I missed out on He-Man and Skeletor (because of extenuating circumstances), so I just have been passing on the rest of the line. Sure that's just my case where I was unable to get them, but they know those would be the two most sought after characters and they have yet to put a date on their supposed "re-releases." And the whole selling them at noon on a weekday bothers me, I mean you expect people to be able to pay $20 + Shipping, but you expect them to have time to do it in the middle of a work day.
And ever since they started with the Batman-DCSH-DCUC-IH lines, they've been so badly distributed. I mean, I frequently go toy hunting, and I'm in Chicago, a major metropolitain area, and I have trouble finding most of their products. I don't really much care for paying drastically over price on the internet for something I should be able to find in stores with just a little effort. I have no problems like that with Hasbro, Jakks, or Toybiz back in the day. Plus they swear up and down how things are being fixed when it is not. I remember them doing this all the time with the JLU lines, saying things are in stores and they aren't being found by anyone. At the end of the day, I like their products, but not their distribution.

first off its a toy@! and kids dont even buy them! let alone know whow he-man is!! and I will repeat there is no mass market here I have never seen these in any store I have ever been in!!!
3. Mattel's MOTUC figures are accurate to the original designs in almost every case. Mind you, that's easier since the original designs saw more reuse of parts than GI Joe did, on the whole (think O13-level of reuse). But still, Hasbro could do a much better job than they're doing with even just a few new parts (e.g. non-gloved hands, more figures with proper rolled sleeves, etc). Quote:

Of course Mattel, and specifically the MOTUC figures, have their downsides too - mainly the extremely limited availability/time in which to purchase these, and the price - but I've got to say that, overall, I'm more impressed with what Mattel's doing than Hasbro. It's nice that a huge toy company worth billions of dollars have carved out a niche in order to cater exclusively to the collecting community.

It would be interesting if Hasbro could/would do something similar. The GIJCC has proven that a certain number of people (myself included!) will pay ridiculous prices for exclusive GI Joe figures... I don't see why they couldn't recreate that on a larger scale - roughly the numbers MOTUC figures are produced in, and bring down the price to maybe $15/figure.
15 bucks for a would kill this line and any other 3/75" line also!!! Quote:
Quality would be key - even if parts were reused, they can't be the rushed or otherwise poorly thought out figures like Leatherneck or Wet Suit. You'd need people like Alyosha to work out a good mix of new parts and a minimum amount of reused molds. Nostalgia is also a key factor - much as some might disagree, or prefer new designs, I think that, by and large, the original designs are the way to go. Nothing against the new stuff, of course - presumably that would be available at retail anyway.

Whether Hasbro is doing it "better/more successfully", in terms of money made, isn't my point. Honda may be a "better" company in terms of cars sold and money made, but that doesn't mean I think they make better cars than Porsche. Porsche is certainly a "better company" when it comes to appealing to a certain, albeit smaller, portion of the overall car-buying market. Porsche does certain things better than Honda, and I believe that Mattel currently does certain things better than Hasbro. Quote:
See this is where the title of this thread changes what the thread was meant to be about, by calling it "How Mattel is better than Hasbro" seems to imply you think they are better overall than Hasbro. Since you state that's not the case, perhaps the title should have been something like "Little things Hasbro could learn from Mattel" This doesn't fully imply that Mattel is better overall, just shows that Mattel is doing some things you feel are better than how Hasbro is doing it, which I now believe is what you intended with this thread.
Whatever. I've spent a LOT of money on GI Joe - I daresay more than most on this forum. I don't have any significant "feelings" for either company one way or the other, but I must admit I do find myself more excited by what Mattel has to offer these days.
