Why do I continue to send money directly to Hasbro for their product? They obviously care little for what the majority of Joe collectors want.
They caved to the desires of big box retailers for smaller packaging. Bye, bye vintage styled card art. They've obviously caved to the desires of what Hollywood thinks Joe should look like. Bye, bye to the memories of those who grew up with GI Joe and kept Kenner/Hasbro in business by purchasing those toys. Sure Hasbro is going to cop to the "they're toys for children" line. It's the easiest way out of the debate. Yeah, I agree they are toys but 95% of my customers are over the age of 16. If I remember correctly, the 25th line was started as a nod to the fans and collectors. It wasn't expected to have such a wide appeal but we all saw the popularity of the line blow up. Now, it appears, that Hasbro is shucking those that kept the line alive. They're mentality has transformed to the big box retail way of thinking....it doesn't matter what toys are on the shelf as long as toys are on the shelf. Truly sad. |

Yes, because Heavy Metal and Thunderblast don't look like the original ARAH versions!

Yeah, I mean why would Hasbro try to coordinate their Joe merchandise with the $200 million dollar movie they made that will be seen by millions? Why don't they just keep catering to the few thousand hardcore Joe fans? Certainly, it makes more financial sense to stick with the smaller fanbase.
Multi-million dollar budgeted movies to not make a toy line successful. Remember all those Spider-Man toys clogging pegs over a year ago. Seems the movie did well but the toys stunk. Yes, we all know that figure lines change up to keep things fresh but I truly believe with enough ingenuity and good planning, the line could have gone on for several more years. As for retreading old figures, Hasbro's been doing that with Star Wars for quite some time. Besides, Hasbro's been runnig anywhere from 2-3 Star Wars lines simultaneously for several years now.

What I wish they had done - though it may have been impractical - is if they did the ROC packaging in a similar style to the 25th; kind of like Resolute did. Change a logo here or there, and bam, they're set. Though I'm not sure how the new-style actor likeness paintings would look in front of the orange explosions... someone should make some custom packaging so we can see |

I don't really blame Hasbro for the ROC look and the discontinued/hiatus of the 25th line. I blame Paramount and that POS producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura for changing the look from military to sci fi/superhero. Hasbro had no say at all and now have to produce the toys according to the movie which is logical.
They couldn't produce and sell the 25th toys on vintage cards at the same time as the movie toys because nobody would buy the ROC stuff and then Paramount wouldn't get their cut. I mean come on,do you think people would buy a alien looking ROC Viper or a 25th Night Viper(with it's evil early 90's design)? |

I would buy both, and I am sure we will see more 25th figures and more military designs as we get further out from the movie, and then back when/if GI Joe II is released.

I don't agree that the cards are smaller. I think they are actually a bit larger (thicker) than the 25th.

I don't think you're giving the GI Joe fan base enough credit. If there's only a few thousand hardcore fans out there, then I must have met them all between doing Megacon and FX this year. And that was just in Orlando, FL.
