First of all, the Wings played well and deserved to win, but mostly it was the Pens playing poorly. Fleury has played like complete crap the whole series so far, it's killing the Pens chances.

It's true. I am the only one, besides Ken Holland and Scotty Bowman, that does NOT think Osgood is a good goalie and that he is a product of the system.

I will never understand the "product of the system" line. If that is the case, Jimmie Howard should be the goalie. He's been in the "system" for a bit. I am not saying the Osgood is the best goalie ever (he's not), but I think he gets no respect in Detroit. Without Osgood, the game on Thurs would've been 14-2. He was left completly left out to dry by his team. And I hope that the Pens actually show up on Tues. They forgot to last night.

If Osgood makes that one big save on the momentum changing Stahl short-handed goal, the Wings would probably be hoisting the cup right now.

True. Or maybe not. Maybe if the Wings actually had tried to play defense, they would not have scored those goals. All the turnovers were out of control. Only so much can be asked of a goalie. And however you feel about Osgood, a shutout in the Stanley Cup finals is impressive, no matter how bad the Pens were. And I am pretty sure Ken Holland is behind Osgood, otherwise he'd have Konks in net. Does anyone even recall Osgood hoisting a cup last year? You may not care for him, but give the man his due.

I see the flaws in his game from my years of playing the position and following the game. He is not the worst goalie in the game but not Conn Smythe caliber (Zetterburg will win). He will never win a Vezina or anything. I would much rather have Marc Andre as my goalie even though he let in 5 goals.

Well, tonight's the big night... finally (seemed like a long break to get two days off from Bettman's accelerated finals schedule). Wings can wrap it up just like last year, or the Pens can push it to 7.
I think the Wings need to finish it tonight. Letting it go to 7 invites a flukey finish where any whacky bounce can mean it all. The Wings finally have all their weapons, full rest, some injury recovery time and should have every bit of motivation they need to get the job done. No excuses. Finish it! Go Red Wings!!! |

Pens strike first on a goal from Staal. Osgood let a huge rebound on the initial shot right back to Staal
