Too bad no one here is an artist. I wonder how Zulu's computer artistry skills are in making comic books.

However, I would focus on using more realistic vehicles in my Joeverse. I thought the use of a Bradley in IDW's series was sweet. I love Blackhawks and modern jets and armor. The skyhawk and jetpacks would probably take a backseat.

There would be pilots and water craft to get them around. I'd limit the "out there" to something like the Skyhawk, something that is somewhat feasible, but would concentrate on more realistic vehicles (kind of what I'm throwing in the base).

Agreed. I know Storm Shadow will always be integral to Cobra but I prefer Snake Eyes as a commando with martial arts training. And Storm Shadow is one of a kind. No ninja clans and mystic arts. Modernize him. Give him firepower. Something akin to Firefly and do away with the ninja backstory. This was the least interesting aspect of Resolute. I wish they would have cut it. That story has been told so many times. Seven Steps to the Sun--it's all drivel. Give me something new. The 80's ninjas are dead.

Why do you think Duke would've been relieved?

As I mentioned, I liked the way he portrayed Flint. Particularly in his later appearances.
just my opinion

I do think it gets stupid when Storm Shadow has dialogue like "I have to break the ninja code and use a firearm!" when he was a LRRP in Vietnam, though. That's just getting stupid.

It was the cartoon that made me hate Duke. I always loved Flint in Marvel's run. Loved his attitude. That issue around #53 where he went after the EELs with his fists so LJ could warn the others... loved it.
But yeah, Hama didn't give any of 'em the due they deserved. But then the cartoon glorified Duke more then it should have. The cartoon made the situation we face now, with Duke being the figurehead and "known" leader of the Joe team, where in reality he's just the Top Sarge.

Sam Eliot's character in "We Were Soldiers" is what Duke should be like.

Hama has stated in several interviews that he did not like Duke because he felt the character was too contrived: the All-American, blond, blue-eyed, American G.I. I agree that he certainly had been using Stalker in that Role, but that was his choice, not Hasbro's. They introduced their own NCO, who outranked Stalker. Hama didn't use Duke well at all.
Quote:
He let Cobra Commander escape when the Joes had him in custody (one of the rare occasions) on one of his early assignments. He was the man in charge when the PIT 2 was destroyed. He was the NCOIC when the worst massacre in Joe history occurred. The list of incompetencies goes on and on.
Duke was not around for the PIT II's destruction - he's not even in the issue when it happens. He's not around in the issues preceding it, either, when Zartan & co break in. Unless we're blaming him for not being present, if that one's going to be pinned on someone, it's Hawk. Or if we need an NCO, Stalker and Sgt. Slaughter are both around. They'd have to relieve Falcon after the massacre, too - wasn't he the officer who was actually running things?
