Maybe Hasbro is waiting to see how Resolute is received before dumping a bunch of money into a toy line based on it.
And before someone says "that's not what they're doing with the movie toys," I realize that. But the movie is a big budget, summer tentpole, and not an hour-long Internet cartoon. |

A monster opportunity for what? For the same people who've been buying G.I. Joe stuff to buy the same amount of G.I. Joe stuff? That's not really a "MASSIVE" opportunity. Certainly not in comparison to the movie line.
There's Resolute product on-shelves around here now. I can still find the five packs, Duke, and Cobra Commander figures without too much difficulty. Sometimes even the Resolute Trooper, too. ive found all the resolute product too. and ive bought it. and i will only buy it once. but if there were 10 more resolute styled figs coming next week...id be buying 10 more. as far as whats on the shelves now.... its 5 figures. CC, duke and the trooper are repainted for the 5pk. the bat is a 25th repaint. not a "resolute" per se. the destro and stormshadow? okay. shockwave and tunnel rat...there's nothing "resolute" about them except their appearance in the enclosed comic. otherwise, they look like 25th intended figures that were thrown into a "resolute" heading. |

Well, a stupid post probably demands a stupid answer.

"Resolute" isn't increasing the Joe audience significantly, and it's not likely to convince someone that didn't already buy toys into suddenly buying them. If the retailers didn't want more Joe figures on their shelves...there isn't dick that Hasbro can do about it. Wal-Mart's already no-doubt spending millions on the movie line...they have no interest in spending more money on the niche product that the 25th Anniversary line and Resolute represents. If Hasbro and the retailers can't even sell out the Resolute product that's already there, why should then invest in more of it? |

Resolute isn't the kind of product that gets major theatrical release anymore. Straight to DVD at best. |

There's one thing about Resolute that people seem to forget: IT'S NOT MARKETED FOR KIDS AND THEREFORE IT'S NOT MARKETED TO SELL TOYS!!!
I seriously doubt there'll be a ton of Resolute toys on the shelves ever. If there is more it'll be 1 or 2 per wave like have seen, and a box set here and there. And that's more to appease the SMALL market that is the collectors. The movie is the only thing that will get Joe back to the heyday it was in the 80s. Resolute won't do it because the fans that Resolute brings in are already buying Joe product, and that would be use. They aren't missing any boats. They know what boat will increase the Joe franchise. They could "dumb down" Resolute and make it a marketable kids cartoon and make the toys to go with it, which is what happened in the 80s. Then Resolute could be the marketing juggernaut that people seem to think it should be. Remember one thing, adult collectors is a VERY small market of the overall toy buying demographic. Something like Resolute isn't made to sell toys. Yes I would love to see all the Joes shown in their Resolute gear. Those would make some awesome figures. But I'm already buying Joes. It doesn't increase Hasbro's profit.

I've covered Toy Fare several times and have been to numerous Hasbro media events. Each time, the reps handling the line have said the same things:
It's all about what kids will want and parents will buy. There is a certain desire to appeal to the collectors and older fans at the same time, but the bottom line is that our(the collectors) buying power is nothing compared to that of what Mom & little Johnny USA are. We should all be happy with Resolute, as this IS a sign that Hasbro is listening, as they made this show for US. Resolute figures do sell, but for the line to take off it has to have the appeal to the right demographic and that's not going to happen with Resolute. |

Except that generally, live action movies tend to make much more money than animated features, with the exception of some CG animated features (and for every two or three of those that makes big bucks, there's a half-dozen or more that pretty much tank).
Resolute isn't the kind of product that gets major theatrical release anymore. Straight to DVD at best. And again, the aim of the movie is to create a new generation of "us", fans of the Joe product that are around 25 years later. The movie is not being made for us, it's being made to create a new Joe fanbase and make Joe open to as many people as possible.
