One time my mother babysat the neighbor's kid who was pretty young and she let him play with my joes and I almost had a heart attack when I saw him making them do splits. Luckily nothing was broken but I was like Duuuude! That's not how you play joes! |

I once lost a Stromtrooper under my bed for about 6 months because I was too afraid to look under my bed. (There were Monsters under my bed!) One day I got up the courage to look for a different toy that had fallen under my bed, and I was pleasantly surprised to find him and a bunch of other toys. |

My older brother and I took care of our Joes, much mroe than your average 8 to 10 year olds, I think, but we still lost and broke a fair amount of them, because we loved playing with them outdoors. There was a semi-abandoned gravel and sand quarry right across where we lived and we'd play out huge battles there. I remember my mum getting so angry with us when one time, we took home bucketloads of sand and rocks and spread them on a living room table so we could recreate some sand dunes and whatnot. Good times.

Updated images of Flint, Recondo and Tunnel Rat:
notes: - Always bothered me that Flint has consistently been depicted with a black beret (instead of a Special Forces green one). Obviously, the grooming and uniform requirements for the Joes are more lax typical of many Spec-Ops capable units, but my suspicion is that the toy designers just didn't know (I've always subscribed to the theory that the Falcon figure was originally meant to be a "corrected" Flint... it's got many of the same design elements: beret, shotgun, woodland camo). - Working on the Recondo image, it struck me how similar he looked to the Australian Jungle Fighter Action Man toys sold in Canada, UK, and Australia throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The original Recondo always looked a bit eccentric to me, what with his retro-styled bush hat and WW2-vintage M1A1 rifle, and I tried to recreate that look while updating it, giving him a shortened M14 to give off that slightly dated feel. - Tunnel Rat is jsut an update of my previously posted image, with the colours made to match the colours of the original figure. That's an EOD chest rig he's got strapped on, BTW, and an M14 SMUD (Stand-Off Munition Disruptor), which is basically just a fancy name for an accurized M14 used to blow up unexploded munitions and IEDs. Those are nice Zulu. I know it's reflective of actual military gear, but man they look overloaded...

OH yeah, I understand the reasoning, just makes it look damn unwieldy.
The Joes would definately be set up like that, non-essential gear in the pack, essential gear within arm's reach and able to get quickly.
