Blowtorch could always burn BATs. Could be the Joe team was reissued those sorts of weapons in order to try and fight a robotic threat. Just throwin' it out there.
It would also be a place to put BBQ. BATs carry flamethrowers too, after all. A BAT hunter/killer/response team might not be a bad idea, even if it ain't exactly strict contemporary military organization. Be a good place for Blowtorch and BBQ both. Not sure who else. Flash? Mainframe? |

I can usine torches to get thru doors, sabotaging vehicles, etc.. but I keep coming back to the best usage for the Joe Flamethrowers being part of the Security Team or just make them Combat Engineers.

Laser Troopers wouldn't be good for a B.A.T. response team. A member would have to be able to react quickly, and lasers take too long to sight in.
Flamethrowers would be okay, but I see guys like Fast Draw, Heavy Duty, Salvo, etc.. being part of a B.A.T. Response Team. Rockets and other exploding devices would be better used against the B.A.T.S. Takes 'em out quicker. Would be a good way to introduce Big Lob into the Joeverse, since he's basically supposed to be a grenadier. He'd be perfect for a B.A.T. Response Team. Fast and accurate with his grenades. Plus he'd die so fast. anyone that can't stop talking about what they are doing while they do it. "big lob reaches in his pocket for his concealed pistol. Big Lob -ghhhhkkkk."

I guess Hasbro's toy designers just weren't really concerned about whether or not flamethrowers were still a relevant weapon in the real world. Oh, and I had to look up Ice Cream Soldier on YoJoe.com... I guess he was introduced after I "temporarily" outgrew GI Joes when I hit 12. That guy had to be some sort of inside joke with the toy designers. It's the only way i can explain it getting made (if there are any Ice Cream Soldier fans reading this, please don't "flame" me :P). If someone is a fan of Ice Cream Soldier, they need to seek help.
I mean, who would take a military action figure seriously with a name like Ice Cream Soldier and that looked like that?

As for Big Lob, well, eh. Why not just Hardball?

Hardball would be there as well. They can argue baseball vs. basketball all day.
I tend to put the Joe lasers into the "slow buring long distance" as described in the filecards of Sci-Fi and Red Spot. But yeah, could still be part of a B.A.T. Response Team.

So if Combat Engineers are the new term for Sappers, what would guys like Hard Top and Tollbooth, and the Seabees be classified as?
I've always called 'em Combat Engineers, as they perform construction and engineering during combat. Need to make a bridge to get across that ravine, here comes Tollbooth...

Hey, here's another Joe that wasn't born in the US.
Rampage - YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Rampage I still think his card is the best for explaining why he's a repaint. Such good friends with Beachhead that he even dresses like him.

I've always called 'em Combat Engineers, as they perform construction and engineering during combat. Need to make a bridge to get across that ravine, here comes Tollbooth... List of United States Army careers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Army Corps of engineers has a bunch of other jobs that fall under that branch. So Tollbooth may be a 21C bridge crew member and Hard Top something else like in the Logistics branch. Mechanical Engineer doesn't seem to be an enlisted man's job, unless he's electronics maintenance, which seems closer to electronics as per his first card. Either way I think all combat engineers learn how to build bridges or for sure know how to construct the modular bridges the army stocks. |
