I'm sure we got plenty of comic geeks other than myself here at the Tank. I was reading books pretty regularly around the time Civil War and Infinite Crisis was getting started, and I tuned out close to where they wrapped up (if you can even call it that).
I've picked up a few random issues since (Sinestro Corps), read about weird crap DC did with The Flash (again), flipped through Ultimates 3, tried to wrap my head around the 52, One Year Later, Final Crisis, Secret Invasion, and Dark Reign arcs but I'm pretty much overwhelmed and confused at what the hell is going on now hah. If anyone can sort of run down what's going on in the Marvel and DC universe or point me to a site that explains please do cause it seems I can't really pick up a book from either without getting complely lost, like when I found out The Wasp was dead and Ant Man or Giant Man..whoever the hell is getting caught up on what's been going on lately because he was a Skrull at some point? Why is the Black Panther a woman now? How is it everybody seems to hate Tony Stark yet he still lives? What's the deal with Norman Osborn now? I guess my real question is are the arcs explaining all this madness even worth reading? lemme know. Last edited by CallMeRotten; 03-12-2009 at 07:15 AM.. |

Marvel: after Civil War it was discovered that there were Skrulls hiding out on earth, pretending to be various superheroes (This was discovered in New Avengers when it was revealed Elektra was a Skrull) eventually this led to the Secret Invasion storyline where in seems a lot of earth's heroes had been captured by the Skrulls and replaced with Skrull lookalikes, including most of SHIELD. Tony Stark was in charge of SHIELD and kinda got blamed for everything. Norman Osborne had been director of the Thunderbolts and proved instrumental in defeating the Skrull invasion, in which Wasp was killed. So now Osborne comes out looking like a national hero and ends up director of the organization replacing SHIELD, called HAMMER. The Dark Reign theme is about his leadership of HAMMER and how he is still a villain, even though the general populace thinks he is a hero.

Good question CMR. I am in the same boat with marvel comics. I followed the Civil War storyline and have been out of the loop since. bigdaddy, based on your discussion, I began thinking:
is Captain America really dead, or was their a skull posing as CA when he was killed? Maybe CA is still alive? Anyone? |

As seen with Elektra Skrull, Cap would've reverted to that green form upon death. That never happened so it looks like Steve Rogers is dead for the time being. For more info on Secret Invasion go here to Newsarama Secret Invasion | Newsarama.com

It doesn't even really have the same impact it did so long ago, heroes die all the time now and eventually come back. Obviously Steve will return, but I actually like the idea of Bucky sticking around as the new Cap. Looks like I got some reading to do! |

If you're not "againist" it. You can find all the stuff scanned online in torrents. It's a great and cheap way to catch up on everything you missed.

Ok guys...please don't throw stones too hard...
But I just started reading Marvel Comics when the Skrull invasion began and can somebody explain what the hell went down on Civil war? Did Captain America died? I kind of know he did but who is the one right now on the Dark Reign saga? what is the beef between him, Stark and Thor? Why do they despise each other now, being that they were the original Avengers?

I wouldn't say Thor despises either but he had died and come back and when came back was more "I'm Asgariand, you're not" then he had been before so he basically stayed with his own kind. The new Cap (Steve Rogers old partner Bucky) has no love for Iron Man (Tony Stark) cause of what happened with Cap and the civil war. But now Tony is on the run and hunted by the guy that replaced him, Norman Osborn.

Hip.
I got back into Marvel right before Civil War, and was reading everything CW related, along with all the X-titles. I was liking the Initiative storyline, but as soon as they started finding Skrulls everywhere, I gave up. lol. |

Stark and the Original Cap (Steve Rogers, who died at end of Civil War) were on opposite sides of the War and it caused a split in their friendship.
