See, that's what I am talking about. What giant crater? I see blood splatter. No crater.

Actually, the more I look at it, there is no way that siliuet shot is depicting a shot through the skull. Especially if it is hollow points like you said. If it was, there would be big pieces of skull flying out, and the exit wound would be much bigger than the entry wound. Again, I don't see any brain matter, I don't see pieces of the skull and I don't see a head that has been blasted out of shape by a square on shot to the back of the head. There is literally nothing in the first pic that says it can't be a grazing shot.

I'll throw my opinion about Bludd's wound in here...
I hadn't examined it in this much detail when I read the prior issue. To me the angle of the head drawing and the resulting blood coming off the face from the "exit" (not really an exit wound) checks out. I don't see tissue or bone. Just blood and flesh from the graze. I also think the damage reveal showing the side of the head was very well done. Great wound illustration. It doesn't look like the bullet entered the optical cavity. To me it just looks like the bullet caught part of the eye at the end before continuing along. This is a real-world thing I know has been written about. Might have been Mythbusters that did a show about it too, this idea that a bullet could enter the skin, go around the skull, then exit the skin. I'm sure it has a real-life precedence. Then we have that clear and obvious cone of blood at the "entry point." At first I thought it was an acceptable part of the depiction of this wound but really now I don't think that cone of blood should be there. It is a very straightforward round force explosion. If the bullet is just hitting skin I don't think it should be there... the force should be pushing the skin and blood forward. Seems to me that the round cone clearly indicates a crater in the skull spurting blood out of an exploding exit wound. It is true that there is no bone matter or skull crater, but I think the blood cone wouldn't be there with a skin-only shot. There wouldn't be a force reaction like this. That cone alone indicates a crater wound to me. It's quite misleading but I don't care much. Just over-observation. The artist probably didn't go into that much thought and it is even possible the script wasn't specific. And we all knew Bludd wasn't dead and would just lose an eye. The drawing of the wound in this issue was well done and actually very interesting to stare at and assess. So I think the forethought went into it and probably the cone of blood (like a rock being dropped in a lake!) was just approved because it was a fake out. That one detail feels very wrong though. Skin alone would not have a huge blood burst gushing out in this direction.

Just for comparison here's Kingpin's death from Punisher Max. Here, even though it's in shadow, we can see that the Punisher shoots Kingpin in the back of the head at point-blank range. Also, the entrance & exit wounds are clearly shown on Kingpin's head.
Meanwhile, there's neither an exit or entrance wound on Bludd's head. Just blood spatter from Bludd's head. Also, the Baroness didn't shoot Bludd from point-blank range. The blood is clearly behind Bludd's nose. Of course, comic book characters have survived being shot at point-blank range when the shooter is a lousy shot like King Lizard. |

I gotta say, I think this was my favorite Duke issue. Duke's been a bit iffy for me so far, not bad but I felt like not a whole lot happened, and I vastly preferred the CC comic. This I felt was a good mix of developing the story. Most importantly, I'm really glad to see Classified designs in fiction.

There was Colin Firth's character, in The Kingsman, who survived being shot in the eye by Sam Jackson.
There are even instances in real life of people surviving being shot in the head, including people who were attempting suicide (meaning they had the gun pressed up against their head... about as point blank as you can get).

Probably should have said "Arseface, from Preacher".

Ok, since nobody else is going to bring this up, it is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the Baroness botched a head shot.
