Honestly, I always kinda thought Cobra-La was a villainous group better suited for the Transformers than the Joes given the whole bioengineering deal. I'm glad to see them tapping into that with the Megatron business.

Can GiJoe ever exist as it's own property in future versions after this and the Hasbro-combined IDW continuity? Especially after the next GiJoe movie existing with Transformers.
My fear is the GiJoe brand is going to be diminished long-term as a result of these choices. I very much liked many of the older crossover mini-series (including the Dreamwave / Image one which included Cobra-La as well) but those were novelty stories. |

Kind of disappointed with that. I was hoping for the origin of the grafted on snake. Like he'd have normal legs and get blown in half by Cobra-La rebels or Megatron by the end of the miniseries and have the snake grafted on then.
Really want to find a red cloak for my Golobulus custom now though. He looks good in that. I presume those cybernetic parts are from Megatron. |

To be fair, it's never been her real body anyway. The entire point is you can be anyone you want so Motoko being in some white girl body wasn't the worst thing. She never looked Japanese except in the original movie anyway. The ScarJo one seemed more based on her SAC version.

From my perspective, the reason this current run is working for me is that it's leaning into the inherent bathos of G.I. Joe's concept. It's running with absurd concepts like a man in a metal mask presiding over his factory building robot suits and an evil hidden civilisation of snake people, which are really silly, but it's playing them straight rather than rolling its eyes or winking at the camera. Contrast with much of the IDW stuff, which tried to make the various daft conceits of Joe "more serious", or the Van Lente run that was constantly looking over its shoulder and going "isn't this silly? Can you see that we think this is silly?"
That SAID... I do have to admit that I probably wouldn't be picking up the second issues of these if they weren't sharing a universe with the Transformers. They're not BAD, they're just kind of thin, and the fact that both issues end with namedrops saying "get excited, here's another G.I. Joe character that you know and love incoming!" isn't particularly promising. |

I’m not a Jump the Shark Cobra-La fan. At all. Buuut…
I’m enjoying the original TMNT comic run level of devil-may-care violence; as Broadside mentioned, playing them straight. I’m totally cool with Skybound at the helm, messing around in the Joe sandbox.

If we see more of the Old Snake and horror element from the first few pages, then I'll accept whatever else Williamson has planned. There is a lot to like in this first issue.

Hard disagree. G.i. Joe can coexist with transformers and hold its own quite well.

I would love to see Skybound add the MASK, Inhumanoids, and ROM properties to the Energon universe eventually. Using Cobra-La and the Transformers really opens up the possibilities.
Venom and Mask can be using recovered/stolen or reverse enginered Transformers tech from the ark crash and broken bots from battles. CC mentions in this issue that Energon has transformation properties, it could be a great way to explain how MASK/VENOM's vehicles transform and the Masks could be reversed engineered tech allowing the driver to interface with the transforming vehicle similar to a headmaster from TransFormers. Toss MASK and Venom into the world as factions, let Venom tangle with the Joes or Autobots over tech and let Mask face some Decepticons or Cobra once in a while. With Cobra-la existing it brings other hidden ancient societies and monsters into play in this universe, the inhumanoids would fit right in and the Earth Corps suits from that show could be reverse engineered Transformer tech too. Let Cobra-La dig up an ancient Inhumanoid Kaiju and release it out into the world every so often for a major crossover teamup event where Joes, Mask, Autobots, and the Earth Corps have to work to stop it. Rom would fit right in with the cosmic side of Transformers and Void Rivals. These properties were based on Toys, dump the toy box out on the floor and have some fun with it.
