And they were on a spinner rack in every minimart--easily accessible for kids. Of course one could argue that digital versions today are even more accessible. I'm curious to know the demographics of comics these days. Do 12 year olds even read them? If so, do they buy the floppy or digital? When 25K is sold, does that number include digital?

I have not seen hard numbers on the average age of comic readers. Using anecdotal observations of the comic shops I visit (3-4 in west Phoenix) at least half of the customers are close to my age, 45. The teenagers and younger kids are there to play Pokemon, Magic, or the other card games.

I'm 40 and I read some of those, a lot of Manga is a way better than the trash the big 2 Marvel and DC are putting out nowadays. You can pretty much find Manga in any genre nowadays. Highly recommend the Manga adaptations of HP Lovecraft stories especially At the Mountains of Madness, the Japanese horror art style fits Lovecraft so well.

Are you referring to the one Gou Tanabe illustrated? I agree, it is wonderful.

GI Joe could work very well as a manga. Totally depends on the genre they pick though. I'd be terrified that they'd go with a Shonen type book similar to how Sigma Six was, or worse imagine Arishkage Naruto. I'd much prefer a manga aimed at teens to adults in a style similar to GI Joe the Movie or best case scenario Resolute. Last edited by sisco; 01-21-2024 at 01:01 AM.. |
