even recession proof business and companies and/or sectors have started some sort of "hiring freeze."

I'm a police officer. Luckily for me, (bad for society), I don't think we'll be out of work any time soon.
Good luck to all the job hunters here. |

I work for fedex as a driver, I only mainly do one stop which has anywhere between 100-600 packages a day, I put them on pallets shrinkwrap them and pallet jack them out of the truck. I sometimes get more work if there is late freight and I have a full route on Saturday. I get around 25-30 hours a week. As soon as I get my class B license which I was sent to spend a week in a hotel room in Ontario food/drinks/travel all paid for, I will be getting a few more hours a day, which will be nice so I don't have to look for another job. I do alright but I am trying to pay off many bills at the same time, and it is making very small dents each month. I live for the day when I am out of debt, can go back to buying whatever I want and finally get a new car.

I don't think anythings completly recession proof, but they're are products that will always be needed and will help curve the hit of the recession. Also, those companies with the forseit to offer a variety of services should be in a better position to ride out the storm and weather her harsh waves.

what i hate most is getting emails that say, sorry we hired someone else....good luck though!
i guess that is better than no response at all from employers but i cant believe that I cant get hired when some of the people i see working at stores or where ever look like the dont give two shits about anything |

fedex has frozen all hiring, and all salaried workers got a paycut. It is looking bad for raises, but they are looking for any excuse to let someone go, and there is talk of layoffs, which is unheard of at fedex, I don't know if it will get that far. I should be ok, since the customer I deliver to has a 2 year contract and it just started. The company takes bad computers/laptops/ipods/iphone etc and fixes them, they are the "warranty" from places like apple, comp usa, best buy etc. Nice easy gig most of the time, actually can get a bit boring, but can't complain.
