Well for sure, this outta drive the value up for ebayers trying to sell these off, especially the Night Ravens, I already see several I had wathcing to pick up 2nds or 3rds moving up in price. If you want a vintage one, I would start shopping now before they really start becoming rare. A lot of those holding out for this new and that are disappointed may well seek them out.
I went ahead and got me 2 extremley nice vintage skystrikers, one to leave vintage and one to strip down repaint and apply new stickers (thank you cobrastickers for making them!) and got a mint quality OG Night Raven a few months back as I figured all we would end up getting was totally changed vehicles that don't measure up. |

I don't think its necessarily a foregone conclusion that a Skystriker is "sure to make tons of cash." The Conquest and the Rattler are warming shelves, at least at my local Targets. I realize the Skystriker may be a little bit more iconic and sought after, but I don't think it's a guaranteed slam dunk.
At least Hasbro would be able to repaint it for Night Force (which would REALLY sell well since so many people love that stuff) in case the original version doesn't sell well (yeah, right...). Hasbro likes the repaints, right? This would give them two sure shots with vintage collectors.

I doubt we will see either. I've heard everything on the Skystriker from "It fails in drop tests", to "We don't have the tooling for it." I tend to believe the second explaination. My guess is that they don't have all the tooling for the WHALE either. Either way, we aren't going to see them in 2009.

I doubt the mold for the Skystriker (SS) being gone is the main reason it isn't in the works. We collectors only really started clamoring for the SS mid-last year. Hasbro was hard at work designing the movie stuff and the Rattler and Conquest were already on the way. I'm sure Hasbro chose those 2 because they were similar in size and are fairly the "right fit" for the line. The Rattler looks like something Cobra could even make today and the Conquest still looks futuristic in 2009 as it did in the mid-80s. The SS represents a retired aircraft and would "date" the line. Collectors, however, never have problems like that. Kids might, but not collectors.
Actually putting together a 25th Skystriker is a different deal. Hasbro has already proved to us that keeping design aspects but ditching the old mold works well. See the Ghost Hawk (Sky Hawk) and Sting Raider (Water Moccasin) for perfect examples of making the same toy with a new mold and new design techniques works EXTREMELY well. I think Hasbro has a chance to upgrade the SS with a great new mold that lets you retract the landing gear by itself and move the wings separately from that. They can also detail out the cockpit a little more and allow 25th figs to sit nicely in the seats. If it came with Flight packs (something that fits over the torso of most figures so they have a parachute and harness) that would be perfect. They also could adjust the missile set-up to allow GBUs (laser guided bombs) and AMRAAMs (newest air to air missile in use). Basically sell it with more than it can carry so we can choose the armament we like. If they make the missile/bomb mounts in more accurate locations that would help. I would also have it come with black tailfins like the original box. If all of those ideas were implemented, I could see the SS back on store shelves with a new Ace figure and a price tag of $39.99 . If it came with a nice 25th Ripcord for the back seat along with Ace, I could see Hasbro getting $49.99 for it. This of course would come AFTER the movie stuff settled down (possibly the first big release in summer 2010). Hasbro, are you listening?

it is cheaper and more profitable to make repaints and use the same body parts to make other figures. milk the crowd then dispose of them , then do it again 10 years later

Making the SKY STRIKER IS the way to go, its iconic to the line and its a kick-ass aircraft. If HASBRO makes this bird again, they need to make it without all the complicated gearing, the swing wings shouldnt be linked to the landing gear, just have flip down landing gear like the other aircraft. Make the plan have just a tad bit longer landing gear so the aircraft sits higher up. Removeable panels are great. More accurate looking engine exhausts. I dont need ejector seats, just put some nice detail in the cockpit-stickers are cool. This aircraft would sell, it would sell out. The conquest and the Rattler are on thier 5th/6th re-issue. Hasbro has made money and they are doing it again with the re-issue...again...of the conquest and the rattler as python patrol/tiger force, to me that is just pure gluttony on thier part. The re-issues on a SKY STRIKER can be re-issued as a night boomer, a navy issue gray or a variety of different squadrons that can be picked to be a variant for the SKY STRIKER. The 25TH ANNIV line is great, re-issues of the old vehicles and the upgraded ones are fantastic, this is a no brainer. Yes it takes money, but this line could be so much more. Im hoping there is someone at Hasbro reading this. The SKY STRIKER is GI JOE. I dont care if its retired. I have bought this aircraft literally 20x over and I will buy as many as I can find and get my hands on, this line deserves to have a re-tooled SKY STRIKER and at 50$ or less with a pilot, I think it, no, I know it will do well.

I'd love to see both vehicles, but probably the WHALE more, I was always a fan of the land and naval vehicles more than the jets.
