1992... the first year of G.I. Joe in which I didn't buy a single figure from the standard carded line. The only figures I purchased from this year were the Ninja Force figures, which I still have MoC. This is also the second year in a row in which none of the vehicles came with included drivers. This year had 7 different sub-lines, along with the carded figures, so to avoid having about 10 different polls, I had to condense some of the figures into other polls.
For the first carded poll, I'll have to go entirely by looks, because I never had any of these figures. The Eels (v2) is tempting, but I'm a sucker for a good Destro figure and the Destro in this wave is a huge improvement over the original 1983 figure, in my opinion. Again, the '90s frequently get crapped on by fans, but there are some very good figures in this wave. Barricade, Big Bear, Duke, Firefly, Gen. Flagg, Gung-Ho, Roadblock, and (from the other poll) Wet-Suit and Wild Bill are as good as anything the line ever put out. This Roadblock is, IMO, the best version of the character from the vintage run.
I'm not a fan of Destro's face sculpt or huge collar, personally. |

Man, hard to choose between Big Bear and General Flagg.
Okay while I love the sculpt of Big Bear I'm voting for Flagg because Bear had bad paint aps in his eyes which knock him down a peg. And why not a comic book October Guard? But that doesn't count against the figure itself. There are some objectively bad designs in this group which I'm nonetheless fond of because of their quirkiness. Barricade, Eels, Firefly, Flak-Viper, There are some ho-hum soldiers. Gung-Ho, Duke and Roadblock. This Destro is terrible.

Duke for me. He was my Duke as a kid and thought he was an awesome figure.

Went with Big Bear. A version of Duke with brown camo instead of orange would've swung it.

duke gets my vote.
that launcher was used as a speeder bike. some how i got two of him. he was my definitive duke until the 1993 one, and then again when 1993 busted his thumbs and because his helmet was always on. |

I was too little to get Destro the first time around and missed out on the gold head one, so having a chance to get my first Destro with this version was exciting for me.

Flagg or Big Bear.
At this point remakes were almost unwelcome, because they were disappointing from a little to a lot. Why is Gung-Ho hatless? Why does Duke have a different nose and wear WW2 Japanese puttees? Why is Firefly green? Why are EELS now like neon super villains? Wild Bill is now a full blown re-enactor/cosplayer. Wet-Suit with removable mask...cool...mullet! And Destro...I have nothing good say about him, too short, small head, bad additions to 1983 design like shoulder armor that restricts some arm poses, asymmetrical necklace and no wrist rockets. Roadblock was so rare due to recall, he gets a pass for now. Flagg or Big Bear. I went Big Bear. Barricade is wearing old Cobra Colors because Hasbro doesn't care. Flak-Viper's design is a mix of good and terrible ideas. Last edited by Sean_C; 05-21-2023 at 09:50 PM.. |

Always though Big Bear was pretty underrated from the perspective of being a more realistic military figures plus he came with one of the coolest guns from the vintage run and a backpack which was rare in the 92-94 figures. |
