To quote Vision from the MCU, "A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts". Just enjoy the memories of what you DID have, and now that you're an adult, you can buy what you missed.
Even more than the figures, I wish I'd taken more pictures, or, I wish my parents had. Every Christmas morning I now do a "lot" photo with my son's stuff and date it, and I wish we'd done that. I have old pics of the Death Star and Cantina from Star Wars, but I wish we had photos of the Hovercraft, the Headquarters, and the year I got the Fortress of Fangs from D&D. And not just toys, but photos of my favorite old arcade where I played Final Fight and Street Fighter 1, the "Dungeon" comic shop where I used to pick up Daredevil and Wolverine, the ditch where we used to BMX and skate (it's filled in now, the entrance to a new neighborhood), pics of my old backyard and my aunt's pool where I played every summer, etc... it's all gone now. It's so much easier with smartphones. Back then, taking photos was really a pain in the ass. Last edited by Cobra Agent 66; 04-03-2023 at 10:39 PM.. Reason: sp. |

No i did not have a bunch of Gi Joe figures back then. i had a few joes mostly a small bunch such as Mindbender, General Hawk , a B.A.T. , the Cobra Twins, Scarlett and Quick Kick and Shipwreck.
Im saying that not just GI Joe figures but other toys back then were pretty cheap at 2 to 3 bucks. The only time hte toys were a little spendfy where the playsets like the GI Joe HQ and some of the big giant Transformers. Star Wars and GI Joe and Masters of the Universe werent that expensive back then anyway but it would have been nice if my parents would have bought a couple more figures like some Cobra officers or something By its nature, as a big toyline with highly individualized characters, lots of cross-sells and yearly waves, it really was geared towards buying lots, or least to making kids want to have lots. But maybe your parents had their reasons. Money may have been tighter than realized. Maybe they wanted you spending your time on other stuff. Or maybe they just didn't get it and thought a handful of action figures was enough. The only people who could really tell you would be them. But I get being disappointed. And it doesn't mean you're throwing your parents under the bus. You can appreciate them, while still being disappointed at this. The two feelings need not be mutually exclusive. |

I remember the chronological timeline I got them in though

Back in the early mid 1980s during 1984 to 1986, Action figures werent that expensive.
They were pretty much just 2 to 3 bucks whether they were G.I. Joe, Star Wars or Masters of the Universe figures. Still a little disappointed at my parents not buying some of the figures like Lady Jay and Raptor and Duke when regular Duke figures were still around at the time in the early 1980s. Exactly.

Anyway, I think the OP means that figures were comparatively cheap and...eh, fuck, I dunno what he was driving at. Prognostication, I guess.

My parents absoluely refused multiples of any troop builder because "you've already got that one." It used to frustrate me as a kid, but, in hindsight, the old "pick out one good guy and one bad guy" on WalMart trips was a pretty sweet gig.

As an adult now, there's no way I'd let my kid "army build" lol... it really is a huge waste of money. One Biker Scout or Tele-Viper was enough as a kid, I just visualized dozens of them.

army building wasnt even a concept in my mind until i got into collecting potf2 in 1997, and it was by accident. i was 14 and by then i was buying my own toys.
in some cases i wish i didnt go too crazy with it because i have a ton of cobra viper pits in their packages. |

I regret not mining for bitcoin back in the 2009 when I first heard about it. It was only at 50 cents a coin back then. Can you imagine???
