Honestly, I LIKED that Rat King. It was new.
I'd rather have that then the dopey fake ninja April in that wave. Literally have a "ninja" April in the Playmates line. And better yet, we have Ninja April in Genesis Tournament Fighters. And still need a good April anyway. Better than Z-listers we're getting now. Give me a Statue of Liberty Krang! |

If they're doing Z-listers, then what is NECA doing? You'd have to go into hexadecimal or the Greek alphabet.
The whole issue is overproduction. The market cooled off very rapidly for all toys around the middle of last year. They should be able to just make fewer and the problem of them going on sale will disappear. They're not like Hasbro where they have assortments and have to make the Z-list characters in the same numbers as the A-listers. They can scale the numbers all the way down. Of course, the knock-on effect is that they can't justify as much new tooling and they will be more reluctant to make less popular figures. But if your long-term plan with Super7 is to get everything on sale, that's not going to happen. They're going to be out of business if that keeps up. So I think the more realistic scenario is a bit of tug of war with future waves. People will order less. The aftermarket will increase on some of them. That will attract speculators which will lead to over-ordering which will lead to reduced aftermarket which will cause it to all go in a loop as long as a few thousand people order each figure. There's a chance that the overstock issues if they persist will lead to a scenario where you can only order with S7 direct and places like BBTS will start demanding 20% non-refundable deposits. But I think Super7 is in no danger of imploding. They're big and diversified. They have lots of properties that would ALL need to go sour and they could probably lay 100 people off and still function on some level. And being essentially a hobbyhorse company, I think they'd keep going even if they exited toys, doing kitschy little collectibles and the kind of stuff they did in the early 2000s. Now... In terms of waiting for clearances, part of the reason why Marvel Legends are $25 now and some fairly basic releases are $28 or $33 is because of the clearance rebates. Hasbro has been getting slammed paying retailers back who put stuff on clearance and the way to cover that cost is with a higher margin. If people don't buy, they don't buy. If lines die, then lines die. But I'm sure Hasbro would rather their action figure lines die than owe money for the kinds of clearances that are going on. And, fine, yeah, some of this stuff may have to be clearanced at higher prices but the higher prices probably account for a decline in sales. Hasbro is probably HOPING to sell somewhat fewer units of a lot of this stuff, because it would cost them less money to sell less at a higher price than it would to sell more at $20, when you factor in clearance refunds. |

Funny thing is pretty much everyone waits for Legends clearances now.
target is already clearancing the Dark Phoenix/Spiral etc. stuff! |

I'm glad you used the words "I think" because you appear to be wrong. They seem to be not only humming along just fine, but are putting out new product regularly, have avoided any announcements of mass layoffs unlike much larger toy producing companies, are taking on new licenses left and right and by all accounts seem just fine.
I'm basing this off reality or what I see btw and not confirmation bias, any dog I may have in the fight hoping for their continued success or any other desire to see them continue. I like their products and that's where it ends for me. |

He said he thinks Super7 is in NO danger of imploding. Meaning he thinks Super7 is doing fine. Which I think is what you were saying.

Obviously they are doing fine. They wouldn't keep on taking new licenses if they weren't.
From what I understand the issue with the TMNT stuff is purely Playmates being assholes as usual. |

Those are some excellent figures. In-between the MCU crap, you get some real gems.
