Jimmy Carter, at death's door, and 98, was President when I was born. And I remember the Joe vs Cobra line from the early 2000's, because I would pop in and out of TRU or KB Toys every now and then to buy something for my little niece, who is now in her 20's and a Veterinarian.
And it was over 15 years ago when I discovered Hisstank because Joe was back in a thing called the "25 anniversary". Yeah, we're getting older.

I'm not old! Now get off my lawn!
I remember it well. I'll agree that some of the designs were great. I only bought one pack from that first, no-ring wave, Frostbite/Neo Viper. I acquired more of the no-ring repaints but kept very few. I have the Toyfare where the line was revealed, and I remember the outrage at the deletion of the O-rings. Which was less about "change is bad" and more "whoa, don't take range of motion AWAY from figures that are supposed to be successors to a highly articulated line". When the Modern Era came about 5 years later, I embraced the figures with MORE articulation. Back to the 2002 line. Good designs, and that first wave looked really good standing. The depth of sculpting looked so much better than vintage figures. It is a shame that the next few figures suffered from the O-ring retrofitting. And some of the vehicles belong in all-time-great conversations. The NAC is a big favorite of mine. |

Those were my early college years. I was also a reservist at the time. I certainly had no money for collecting (it also wasn't even remotely any one of my focuses) but ironically even though I was older I don't remember a lot from this line. I do remember having some figures from whatever line the Neo Vipers were from. Like others have said, I was happy that GI JOE was still alive, even the figures were not great.

Don't forget...this style of figure was replaced by Sigma 6... The 4-inch ones came a bit later.

Agreed! There is quality in those years, and only a touch of quality in that 25th run (EEL, Snow Serpent, etc.)…and I’m a modern 4” collector/customizer first and foremost.

Hah! Not this time.
AS for the rest of you, I actually love all the push-back. I have a lot of issues with that era, but I appreciate that a lot of fans had a very different experience of it. (Some were even born of it, which is awesome!) Thanks for hearing and countering my own personal shitty take on that era. I very much appreciate your perspectives.

I may hate 25th modern sculpt gijoes, but i can at least say that modern star wars is better by having similar articulation. Which isnt exactly saying anything positive about modern sculpt gijoes. |

I thought the 2.5" SIGMA 6 line was incredible. It was all about the vehicles, Hasbro went all out on the designs and they really did an amazing job.
