Retro doesn't take the budget away.
That said, if it's cheaper to make I'm sure as a company Hasbro looks and goes "if we can get enough people to buy 5POA Retro figures why waste money on TVC". Like before when the torched TVC for 5POA figures. |

Yeah, it all comes out of the same pot. I assume it's a budget for all Star Wars merch that then gets subdivided between the different product lines. Action figures/"boy's toys" probably gets the short end in general. And of that, you know more more kid-oriented stuff and probably Black Series get the lion's share, and the rest is divvied up between TVC and Retro. Personally, I'm out of TVC, as retro satisfies my nostalgia fix for Star Wars (it's something I didn't even realize was what I wanted all along), so TVC can die for all I care.

i dont get any excitement over "the original 96". george lucas pretty much killed any nostalgia i had for star wars with the prequels.
i just want cool characters in tvc from the stuff i like and it's not happening. like, mandalorian is a really great show, yet, let's keep releasing more clones. no rebels figures exist in tvc, yet every other star wars tv show and movie has something. |

Yeah, I'm becoming more and more nostalgia toy focused, and caring less about articulation and sculpting. When I first got into this as an adult with the 2000 ARAHC toys, it was because they reminded me of the toys I grew up with. Originally, all I wanted was the toys I had back then, but new copies without the wear and cost associated with "vintage". Somewhere along the way, I got caught up in the "bigger, better, more articulation" thing. Part of that was because my son was younger and I could play with the toys with him. It took the Star Wars Retro and then the O-ring guys to remind me what I wanted in the first place. I don't "play" with these things anymore, or do dios and take photos--I don't really even pose them much anymore--and I don't have the time or interest for customizing, so old school toys are best for what I need. It doesn't hurt that I can generally pick up Retro Star Wars guys for around $7-8 bucks if I'm patient. Buying toys at toy prices is a big part of the hobby for me. The figures themselves matter, of course, but it's more about the feelings I get from them the figure itself...if that makes sense.

To each their own, but I am the exact opposite. The retro stuff drives me insane (I am a completionist and have to buy it, and what is worse is that I want to be sure the cards and bubbles are C10). I am in no way knocking what other people like, but the 1977 articulation and sculpts more no sense to me. I do not want what I had in 1977 or modern stuff with that aesthetic. I want hyper-realistic figures with the minimum articulation we have now. In truth, I am sick of the lack of articulation and really want a jump forward so that we get quadruple the articulation points we have now and sculpts and paint jobs that surpass what Hot Toys gives us.

no new figures at my Walmart
lots of retro though the problem with retro is the casual people do not differentiate between TVC & retro so you have them all mixed up on pegs at Target

I'm not looking for a quarrel, or trying to single you out, I'm more confused by this. Hasn't there been several Mandalorian characters in TVC? Doesn't the current wave have some more from that show?
