BizCopperhead is right. I do a lot of 3D printing and 3.75" Joes are right at about where he said when sizing. They generally don't fit well in 1/18 diecast cars because the steering wheels and seats have no give to them like a 1:1 vehicle. You can see that the 1/18 vehicles are slightly larger than the Joes if you have them posed next to it.
preface: i only ever consider o-ring figures when i am looking at fodder even though i collect modern sculpt star wars figures. in my experience from the few 1:18 cars i bought to use for my o-ring gijoes; a 73 mach one mustang and the hotwheels batmobile (which i returned because it was just absolutely impossible to just toss my batman custom in); they dont fit. im not going to modify a metal car, and rip out seats and floor boards and all of that. at the time these were purchased i was a stupid college kid years out of getting a job at a company that i could do these kinds of modifications - that i still would not do today. here's the thing that bugs me about all of this, not your post, but the whole "but this is 1:18" thing we all have going on. here's my first (probably last for weapons) purchase from everyone's golden boy, from marauder inc the red box, everything is completely unusable. the one i was the most excited about in the whole order was megatron gun, but it's far too large to fit in an o-ring figure hand. hell, the figure on the website they used to advertise it, it's stretching that hand to the extreme because it's too big even for that. it is even far too large for a vintage collection star wars figure's hand. the kriss vector i added when i wanted to kitbash cable's BFG from physical guns, i took a chance on for other customs. the handle too big for o-ring figures, and a tvc star wars figure and comically, the foregrip is not in scale with the handle; and it's comically large in use by an o-ring figure. the brown parts gun was thrown in, nad it's just far too big to use for any figure i own. hilariously big. looking at this particular gun, i think it's absolutely not scaled right to what it's supposed to actually be. im not a gunsman though. the yellow box are from old marauder inc when they first started, these were sold using o-ring figures. i dont know how i feel about the handles, and they sit goofy in my figures hands. but i knew what i was getting into with them. the green box is the best of the bunch, but the handles are too small. the overall note at the bottom and the take away from all this is the handle sizes are inconsistent. they have hteir own figure toyline they produce, i have a reasonable expectation that all the handles of their guns would be the same size. they are not. the valmet terminator gun "more on this later". so, i love the terminator. i have 40 some odd 1:18 endoskeletons from china, and i spent a decent amount of time scaling down and printing a 1:1 westinghouse 40 watt phased plasma rifle for each of them (project not finished) so naturally, i want to make a few valmet m82a's for my human resistance fighters. (side note, i also mostly wanted the valmet for myself for my techcom costume but was living with my endo rifle, so the added plus of scaling it down is great). here's the thing though. i was mindful of the size of the handle, not jus the overall scale of the weapon. i did this, knowing that hasbro was also guilty(?, i wouldnt call them guilty, lack of a better word) of doing the same thing for gijoes. you scale a big gun down you lose detail or you scale a big gun down and change some things to make it fit your toyline, that's better. i went wit hthat in mind. the valmet particularly i had it scaled to the right size for my figures, but the handle was whacked - so i spliced the handle out and scaled it to fit a figures hand and shoved it back on around where it goes. is it accurate? no. is it accurate enough for a 4" toy? absolutely. since my cable gun was already in a ton of different parts, that's where i first took this stance because the handle on first print was too big. and that's another thing what irks me about my marauder order. not only is none of it consistent, but yeah i get they were going for accuracy over what actually works. knowing this and my own order, it's difficult for me to say: "yeah marauder inc is the go to place for all my 1:18 scale custom weapon needs" because as of today - it's definitely not. i have needed to get that off my chest for months, but i dare not visit the marauder inc love fest thread ever again. I hear you on the inconsistent gun handle sizes. It has been a problem on GI Joes figure forever. Most of my original (as a kid) GI Joe figures were Spy Troops/VvV and some weapons fit better in their hands than others, always. Even more - I have noticed that MANY weapons included in Spy Troops/VvV era figures are the same as some of the old o-ring figures. Just the other day I noticed that Frostbite v4 (2002) skiing equipment is the same as Snow Job v1 (1983). So, the inconsistency goes all the way back to original ARAH. The saving grace for Spy Troops/VvV is that their hands are much more flexible, and hence even with the inconsistent handle size, you can still put it on and get a decent grip.
The same thing goes for Marauder weapons. I haven't bought a lot of different weapons, but the ones I have (the gun-metal modular M4 and a couple pistols) work very well with ME & O-ring alike. The new O-ring figures also have this issue. In the two packs you can find a variety of handle sizes. The HasLab figures weapons are more consistent, and the guns that Ace and Fail Safe have are very good. Surprisingly, and at least from the very few figures and accessories I have, as a kid I noticed that Corps guns were the most consistent in handle size, usually giving the less pressure to the hands. Nonetheless, 50% of my Corps O-ring figures have broken thumbs Last edited by zorman; 02-03-2023 at 09:45 AM.. |

There are a couple of those that were on my radar - I definitely need that set with Brekhov and Shrage. The Snake Eyes with the green pants is sick. The black deco Lady Jaye is cool, my daughter would love that one. Thanks for sharing I'll have to check on some of these next month and hunt the auctions.

lol I know, it's just that adult collectors are prone to OCD anyway, and once we start with semantics and nit-picking, the whole thing becomes boring AF. It also creates/attracts the sort who like a hierarchy of nerds that constantly point out when something isn't "correct." You know what I mean. "1:18" is an established catch-all term for 3.75/4" and I'd hate to see it complicated/fragmented. I don't have time for that shit.

I still think Comic Pack Zartan is the best Zartan.

all the clever math in the world wont change that. and then my diatribe about then having to scale everything in 3d models to 3d print, further exacerbates the thing. not even kidding, people that play warhammer or other table top role playing games the figures are 28mm scaled, and yet all different designers manage to have their own scales that doesnt match up. kind of stupid. |

My goodness, the 3-packs and multipacks of the "repaint era" have aged well. At the time, I hated buying figures I didn't want to get the ones I did, but that haul looks great.
The comic packs gave us some crap.. but I'd consider that Zartan, Firefly, "Fred" Cobra Commander, and a few others among the best O-ring figures ever produced. |
