To kind of explain the examples you note, Claymore's helmet is the sought after part, with his waist following that a bit. The helmet is sort of the figure's equivalent to Firefly's walkie, but rarer, since it was a TRU exclusive. In the case of the Equalizer, finding one with intact pegs is a challenge. The seller lowballed you a bit (especially if it had an intact tow cable), but I've passed on may in the $75-100 range on eBay due to the same issue.
The Lynx was a steal, though. AFA the Hammerhead, that's really going to come down to what's missing. As you note, the price of vehicles almost always comes down to the parts. There are many I simply wouldn't buy at any price if certain parts are missing, because the price of the parts can rival the price of the vehicle complete. It's really funny looking at Ebay prices trying to complete my vehicles I'm keeping. Like the Sky HAVOC - man, that engine cover is a bitch to get online for a good price. More annoying because I know I have it somewhere but who knows where it ended up. But on the flip side it cost me $5 to get the main cannon to complete my HISS II. |

i think i paid 60 bucks for my nearer complete hammerhead and 60 bucks more on just missles for my incomplete one. and i keep buying the missiles rather than actualyl keeping track of what im missing.
i need the top black pod complete x2 and i think 2 of the side rocket things. get this though. i have a complete general and a complete thunderclap, that i bought both from the same seller for 150 bucks in 2013? the only thing that's wrong is one of the general door pegs is broken and t he thunderclap's main hull isnt the best condition. it also depends on what it is, because in all my years i've never seen anyone say "the general is my favorite vehicle." same for the thunderclap. that group is in large part of why the prices are so stupid now. it isnt even about getting a good deal, it's about "i paid a lot for this." then there's a member who's a roid raging asshole. another scumbag did raffles and gave all his friends good stuff and other people his junk parts - and they wouldnt kick his ass out. not a great community.

I've managed to find some reasonable deals for o-rings on Ebay by "todays" standards, and I only get complete figures, sometimes near complete in a case of V1 Outback who doesn't have his flashlight (as the flashlight almost doubles his cost). The best deals yet has been at local vintage toy stores (sometimes), because some of them realize the ridiculous of current ebay prices, and will not charge that much, especially if you buy in bulk, but some stores will just base their prices on current ebay prices. I used to find deals on Facebook about 7-8 years ago, but I feel those days are long gone. I remember a guy selling a large number of carded figures for $20-$40 each cause the storage he had it in had smoke damage and the cards were messed up. That would never happen now.

The other thing about the Facebook groups is that in the rare occasion when a figure might actually be offered at a somewhat reasonable price, it will invariably be claimed within 5 seconds of posting by one of the high-rollers planning to flip it on eBay for 10x the price.
and if it's not public, they get first dibs privately anyway just to be connected/kiss ass to those imbeciles. if you dont sell it to them they pitch a fit. it's so stupid. |

Sorry to hear guys and gals. I noticed prices starting to run right after the Retaliation figures ran their course. Sounds like they’ve been steadily climbing since. Maybe lack of 4” product has led fans to work on their vintage collections to keep their hobby alive? Maybe the upcoming O Rings are sparking interest in the old toys again.
I still have a good amount of figures, accessories, and vehicles to grab but I’m hoping the 87 and later stuff is not as bad. 86 was the last year that I was all in, and actually wanted any Joe stuff for Christmas. From 87 on I started cherry picking it only for a couple more years.

I'd rather pay inflated prices on eBay than to have to do anything on Facebook. I've found some good lots, vehicles and individual figures for decent prices lately on eBay recently. So much so that I've probably gone overboard on it.

Hear hear. Never signed up for FB, and the vague promise of cheap Joes isn't going to change that any time soon. The key to eBay is patience, it's rare that I pay what the average BINs are going for unless I need a fairly common accessory or part. Also, never buy on Sunday.

I've had the best luck here though. The hits on my BST can be slow at times, but I've gotten some killer deals and met some great people by dealing on-site.
