Yeah, and it's not really about what they personally liked anyway. They were trying to create things kids would be into, and that would often mean taking from the cultural things kids were already into. In the eighties, that weird Mad Max/post-apocalypse/Billy Idol/pseudo-punk/bullshit street gang mash-up thing was big. It's where the whole Dreadnoks aesthetic comes from. Escape from New York and Death Wish-type flicks had us believing roving gangs of goofy white boys sporting mohawks, war-paint and football pads was cool.

That's a really well-done custom Zandar. Hoping Hasbro gives us him in the next year or two!
I think the only things I would want done differently from that custom when Hasbro does him would be: 1) To tone down the blue to be way less bright. His blue will probably end up being closer to the Classified Zarana's pants or be fairly close to that. 2) Make the bandana around his neck a lot smaller and more like the size of the Viper's scarf - which honestly Hasbro can just re-use. 3) He needs the bronze or gold knee pads with his boots 4) Hasbro's version should have a fairly unattractive or even flat out ugly face and not traditionally handsome like that custom head is

At the least I hope Hasbro's Zandar will look more serious and not smirking or friendly. I feel like he should look very focused, serious and either frowning, sneering or scowling. Just my opinion.

I would say mostly because his original figure was not attractive at all in the slightest and his original concept design art definitely made him look like he was peculiar looking or an oddball. Just fits more with the character to me. The custom's head sculpt is more fitting for a superhero to me and seems out of place for a mysterious and shadowy figure like Zandar who is supposed to never get noticed and sort of blend in with the crowd, implying he would be ordinary or average looking and not catch anybody's attention.

I don't know anything about the IDW years or how Hama treated the character then, so forgive my ignorance in that regard. I only know his original filecard info, the cartoon and original Marvel comic run. I always looked at it this way - Zartan being the older brother has both of his siblings' abilities: to be able to camouflage and disappear into the shadows (Zandar) and be a master of disguises and makeup (Zarana) and become another person. But his younger siblings only possessed one of each of those abilities, but were better at it than he was as individuals. Zartan could sort of do it all and do it well. Where as the siblings only did one thing, but were more masterful at it than their older brother. If that makes sense.

I wonder if that is because Marvel Legends heads are often used because there are so many options using them, and tend to have more of a superhero comic-book cartoon look?
