To be specific it's been reportedly handed to Skybound which is Robert Kirkman's Image studio. Which sounds promising even though report indicate Kirkman himself won't be writing Transformers & GI Joe comics.

In Sunbow, he's a imaginative but crazed leader whose undoing is usually in his egotism, hubris, lack of self-control and underestimation of his opponents, which makes his failure funny. Hama's CC is just a moron, which gets really old really fast. Quote:

I just wanted to point out, per Flint Dille, Sunbow was actually designed mainly for kids, but also for their parents. Hence why some of the more clever, tongue-in-cheek humor is actually aimed at older audiences.

I'm not nearly as negative as some of the folks on here--I'd be embarrassed if Hama himself ever saw them!
I was disappointed however in issue 300. Do I need to go back and re-read the last few issues maybe? The mutant-gene-bomb was brought up a few issues ago, teased, and then left alone. Revanche wanting to cause chaos between COBRA and the Joes has a touch of potential (I loved when Destro or Zartan would form a third faction), but I'm really just not into Revanche. I think Wade Collins has the potential to be really interesting, especially with Sean in the picture, but it's tough to get invested when Wade is on death's door and then magically fine. I was glad to see the comments about Scarlett becoming more interesting now that SE is back, and I hope that's true. I was also disappointed in original SE coming back "with all his original memories intact...except now he's completely loyal to COBRA!" (which lasted two panels). I'm really not onboard with SE coming back, but if he did, AND Hama set up that he'd be an agent of COBRA, I wish we could have seen a bit more of a struggle there. I don't want Hama to retell old stories, but it could have been interesting to see the SE/Stormshadow relationship inverted for a bit. I'll go on record as saying I like Gallant's art on the book, and I think he deserves credit for keeping things on schedule. How much worse would the comments be if IDW couldn't even get to #300 before losing the license due to art delays? And to be clear, I'm not saying the art was sub-par-but-on-time; I've always enjoyed Gallant's storytelling and military accuracy. I'm glad we got an oversized issue and some sort of editorial, but overall I was really hoping for more of an "event" with issue #300. |

I doubt that Larry would waste any time on this board but we do know that others that have been or are involved in ARAH do poke in every now and then and I would be horrified if I said something cruel about any of them and I knew my comment hurt them. |

Read this last week and can say for certain that this is not how I expected the IDW run to end.
On a cliffhanger making it pretty explicit that the story would continue with the new publisher. I was dreading a whole bunch of loose ends would be glossed over to try and finish the series at "a natural ending point" in a single issue. Very relieved that it didn't go down this way. Overall I still enjoy the Hamaverse and it is the only monthly title I still collect and am hoping to hear an announcement in the next month or so about issue #301. Having loved the end of the original Oktober Guard it was very odd having them back and as well as some other editorial missteps along the way. But getting Snake-Eyes back with a real face and voice opens up new story possibilities as I disliked how quickly Sean re-set the status quo. I'm still wondering where all this Scarlett and Stalker mentoring was as I'd have loved to see more. Only as Dawn started to break down did I see any real team support going on. A big hope for the new series is that Serpentor stays around a little longer this time and the new publisher pushes for something like The Coil. It would be great if Cobra Commander got back to his roots starting up a new organization and became as competent as he was in 1984-1985. A real figure to be feared as he tries to win back the organization he started. |

Just read 300. I was the biggest Hama only joe fan I could have been for years and was glad when the ongoing run started back with Hama at idw. With my built-in Hama joe fan status, it took a lot to turn me against the ongoing run. But it certainly did that. Not just one problem but several, I could have lived with the repetitious plots, but the increasingly radical political messaging along with forgetting who had been killed and the never ending revanche stuff made the book difficult to like. Then the ridiculous out-of-character method of killing snake eyes (he was too stupid to toss the grenade back?) and the years of telling the same snake eyes stories with the deservedly despised replacements just broke any built-in loyalty I had to Hama’s authorship.
Even one of the things I respected about his writing (not using profanity) he didn’t maintain even to misuse the name of Jesus in a cancel culture that gets you fired for even agreeing with power holders with slightly the wrong words (but apparently those power holders take zero offense at blasphemy as long as it’s directed at Jesus). Because of that I dropped the book. Years later I gave it another try. In the end, I was surprised that there were a few gems in the last 10 issues or so, issues where he dialed back the silly new characters he made up, limited his political messaging, and actually told a joe story. That made me think it was at least possible that 300 would be worth reading, especially since I heard short fuze was in it (my first joe). But having just read it, even my tiny expectations were let down. Serpentor knows snake eyes better than mindbender. All the joes accept the clone as “snake eyes revived” and “resurrected.” Shipwreck calls cutter deep six. Even the cover is weird, characters standing next to each other are different sizes, looks cartoony. And I expected a double sized issue for 6.99. And short fuze wasn’t even in the Hama run, but in some rediculous different-author add-on (how many times have we seen joes stop bleeding? Surely they don’t need inservice training on stopping bleeding). And if the deal falls through the whole series would be left on a cliffhanger, which would be a very fitting end to this garbage. I would actually prefer that to the alternative.
