Yeah that's a head-scratcher. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love this comic, warts and all, but it is the most error-riddled book I have ever read. I heard an interview with Diana Davis a while back and she mentioned how some errors still get through. "Some"??? That's literally your only job yet every single issue has mistakes - some very minor but some not.

I was cool with this series right up to issue 200, after that it took a huge nose dive. The blue ninja story should have ended along time ago. I hope the next editor has a better grasp of the continuity of the series. Hama's memory only seems to extend to issues 21,26,and 27. When he forgot that he killed the October Gaurd was the point where I lost my shit. Hama really needs to retire. I'll give the new publisher a shot it couldn't be any worse then IDW could it? In my best Al Bundy Oh God!!!

Just read it as well. The multiple SE plot was very rushed, and all the Joes sure accepted the clone as the true SE without hesitation. And good for Wade healing himself so well compared to the where he was in the previous issue.
I did enjoy where the Serpentor plot ended up. Not what I expected. My biggest gripe is the art. Most of the panels were very subpar in my opinion. Backgrounds were extremely bland and the main visuals lacked detail. I?ve always been pretty unimpressed with Gallant, but this was just not good. The cliffhangers were OK, but I would have preferred a bit more resolution. You know, just in case the plug gets pulled on a continuation. Lastly, I had to laugh while I read Waltz?s letter. First, that Hama just finished a script for the second issue coming up. I thought Larry just winged it with no script? Secondly, Waltz praises the Joe lore experts he consulted with while he was editor. Scratched my head at that one. He sure as heck didn?t listen to her on many occasions! I also agree that a resolution would have been nice but I also understand why a cliffhanger might be part of a bigger strategy. One thing is for sure: the next publisher is clearly NOT going to attempt to pick up any new readers with #301 by starting with a fresh storyline. My only real gripe with this issue is the cover. I respect the time that went into it, but it does nothing to serve the story and that drives me nuts. The only cover that was well drawn is the Netho Diaz variant but, again, it's a pinup. One thing I think we can all agree on? Good riddance IDW. Now...when will we get an announcement from the new publisher?!? |

Just finished reading the last dozen or so issues, after saving them up for around a year. Was a pretty cool experience, I have to say.
(Spoilers below) It's great to have SE back, and him reunited with Scarlett, not to mention Tommy, Lonzo, and Wade as well. Will be interesting to see what happens with Dawn and Sean, as well as exactly how Laura 90210 develops now that she's returned the favor for SE. I have a feeling she's going to develop into another new Joe like Multo and Sherlock, though maybe over a longer period of time, after helping the Joes stop Khan and the zombie bomb of course. I can understand other fans being frustrated with all the time the newer characters get, since the Joe universe is already chock full of promising but underdeveloped characters, many of whom have been around and underexplored for decades. But if you ask me, bringing in new characters through the Hama book is of a piece with the fantastic work happening with Recall and Longbow. New characters help the world feel fresh and like it did decades ago, imo. On the other hand, I do think the critics are right that Larry's emphasis on his favorite characters and themes is only capturing a small part of the potential market, & only a small part of the story potential, and that Joe overall would be vastly more successful over the next ten or twenty years if it also started up a new main comic with a great crew, and also did a new toon. I do think the brand (and any brand) needs new writers who will explore other characters and give us alternate, interestingly different interpretations of many of these characters too, just like it's always interesting to see a new version of the Joker or James Bond. But that said, here's hoping Larry's book gets to 400 Last edited by books; 11-23-2022 at 02:45 PM.. |

Also: my device battery is dying so I have to be brief, but I enjoyed a lot of the art in this one, especially those full page panels with the C-130, Stalker and Scarlett, and SE & Scarlett reunited ❤
Kinda hoping Khan and Revanche destroy each other in the first year of the continuation though... |

I don't sweat the small stuff, but I agree with you regarding the art. I think Gallant would benefit tremendously from a more seasoned inker. Have you seen what Rod Whigham's pencils look like without Mushynsky's inks? Not nearly as impressive. An inker can make a huge difference. Hopefully we'll see a great art team next issue...whenever that happens.

Since Hama is continuing this crap-fest. Hopefully Skybound at least puts out a new version of Joe. The Chuck Dixon version was my favorite re-boot. |

Love Ron Wagner and I'd love him even more if he returned to ARAH. But even he benefits from a strong inker to make his pencils shine. Compare some of Netho Diaz's work on Joe to his Marvel stuff. His Joe stuff is fantastic, but his Legion of X work is next level--in part due to having a stronger inker. It comes down to money, and I think IDW didn't have the budget to pay for a top tier art TEAM.

Well how'd it end? Did CC get turned into a snake? I hope not.
I'm gonna do a 1-300 read through soon, but I prolly won't start until January. Maybe December. But I gotta know bout my boy. He's alright isn't he??
