Have you ever watched Golion or Dairugger? They're the original shows that Lion and Vehicle Votron were based on? Same for Macross, the show that spawned RoboTech. |

MASK was my favourite show from outside the top tier... but unfortunately it aired at the same time I had hockey on Saturdays in 1988 or whenever it was. It was one of the first shows I sought copies of when people started posting stuff online.
The real down period for me was that 89 - 91 strech, where the dominance of TMNT overrode pretty much every other attempt to create an action cartoon (or all you had were TMNT rip-offs, for good or ill). Thankfully X-Men came along, and then BTAS showed up and redefined cartoons. I hear ya. I do remember that period where it seemed like every new cartoon was a TMNT clone about anthropomorphic animals that were surfers, ninjas, or bikers or army dude commandos lol I admit I was a huge Turtle nerd though from like '88-'91. Ahhhhh, X-Men and BTAS - the two greatest cartoons of the 1990s! Those cartoons were awesome because it was almost as though the writers and networks knew fans of the '80s cartoons had gotten a little older and were probably about 12-18 yrs old now. So the storylines and plots became more dark and sinister. It was great! Like we had all aged and matured a little and so did the cartoons it seemed along with us. Quote:
I forgot I also was really into Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman in Japan) in the early '80s.

* - Timm has stated that he HATED all the lines on the Joe character models, and that was a big reason why BTAS wound up so streamlined. |

I don't think anybody really does know. But the fact that no news has come out about this in the past 15 months says a lot and probably means it was at the very least delayed indefinitely or put on hold, if not permanently shelved.

The problem is not the lack of confidence from the franchise, but the lack of talent from the staff behind.

Transformers may have that luxury and the MCU may have that luxury, but not GIJOE. And I am glad otherwise they will just keep doing what they are doing and not correcting their course. Sadly, the Snake Eyes movie failure may have put everything on hold for quite some time but I have a feeling things will be better the next go round. Even if we have to wait longer.

Bottom line, they need to hire writers and directors who actually PLAYED with the toys, watched the cartoons, and read the comics growing up. They hire those type of people to design the toyline... why not to make the films?
