The Walmart line is what got me back into collecting G.I. Joe. If not for them, I would have stuck with... *GASP*... NFL cards!!!
If Hasbro and Walmart had continued the ME line, I also never would have gotten into Classified. I only switched over because they cancelled the ME line and I didn't want to collect O-rings, because I really don't like how the O-rings look.

Ya'll need to remember that just because something doesn't appeal to you for whatever reason, doesn't mean it "sucks." Classified/all 6-7" dolls are lame to me, but I don't run around here proclaiming their shittiness. The Walmart Retro line was great for people who missed out on the 25th/POC/30th/50th releases of the AWE, HISS, SE, SS, Baroness, Destro and brought us new takes on Scarlett and Roadblock, in addition to a new Stalker, Grunt and Cobra Trooper/Officer. That ain't bad at all. Plus, it was really cool seeing the old school Joe packaging in toy aisles again. It was fun, which is what this shit is supposed to be.

But Hasbro doesn't have to care, since it's now Hiya's responsibility to profit off the work they do while Hasbro sits back, does nothing, and rakes in the license fees Hiya paid them. Hasbro's involvement with Hiya's line is *done*, until the next time Hiya has to pay the license fee.

The Walmart line certainly disappeared fast and then skyrocketed up in price. Specifically Baroness, Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Scarlett.
It's a shame if it underperformed in the end, but I wonder how much of that was the first wave being almost impossible to get thanks to scalpers. Because Grunt and Stalker were great figures but sadly seemed to flop. Cobra Troopers seemed to go fast, though. I do think Hasbro is leaving money on the table, but probably not enough to make Hasbro decide to not try and grab another market. Who knows - maybe they see those 3.75 Gundam military character figures selling and thing they can capitalize on that? |

The first waves, particularly the Scarlett wave (which was the second one released), were hard to get because they were produced in very small numbers, released erratically, and weren't on Pulse. Also, they shortpacked Baroness and Scarlett in the cases.

Such an odd angle to do them in classified styles. I wonder if that’s how hasbro licensed them, kinda like how hiya had the colonial marines license for the game designs but not the movie designs.

My guess is that they licensed only Blackout designs to them. Blackout is kind of right up Hiyas' niche alley.
