They're going to have extra Stingers eventually, right?
I assumed Classified BATS would never be available again, so I acquired a few extra. But then BATS became available again. So the same thing will happen with Stingers. Or at least it is reasonable to hope! |

cool the megatron hiss is shipping now from amazon. pulse is still slated for next year. maybe i'll pick one up from amazon, but I cancelled my preorders for both the transformer mash-ups when they didn't give any news about the o-ring line at pulse con. Wasn't too bummed about it either since (in my opinion) the transformer part of these were pretty poorly executed and at a very high price point. slightly tempted to grab one off amazon now tho. yall think they'll pack them right? or the box'll get damaged during shipping?

I think nothing is guaranteed when it comes to the o-ring line. The Joe team seem to be a lot more dedicated to the Classified line, so it's not surprising that BATS had another run, as did Dr. Mindbender (which I believe got 3 additional pre-orders, if I'm not mistaken). One would think the logical thing to do with the Stinger is to do another run, but we haven't heard anything with regards to the o-ring line, so there's no way to know... In contrast, when Classified Dr. Mindbender sold out, fans complained, and Emily responded straight away to reassure fans another pre-order would come... and then did the same a couple more times... there was no such messaging to o-ring fans when the Stinger sold out in a day.
Yep. I keep seeing people saying things like, "They'll re-release it because they want to get their money's worth out of the molds." That has become a sort of standard idea with toys where repaints and parts reuse is part and parcel of the line. We're just used to companies like Hasbro seemingly squeezing as much as they can out of their tooling. The thing is though, I think things have changed on the manufacturing front. Like in all manufacturing, it was always about return on investment (you need to make X amount on finished product sales in order to justify the upfront costs of production), but that doesn't mean you need to use tooling over and over again. Often, you just need to hit a certain amount in sales to the retailers, so I single production run could more than cover those upfront costs, depending on those costs, the wholesale price and the amounts ordered. They crunch those numbers before they even begin to tool up for production. Now, I suspect, they're using lower cost, less-robust, less-permanent tooling or something. I dunno this for certain, but there are signs of this being the case, like they sure don't seem to care about reusing the tooling used for the new ME Retro figures like Stalker/Grunt & Officer/Trooper. And there were examples back in the day of that not always being the case too. The Retaliation Eagle Hawk/Tomahawk molds are a fine example here. They may have had plans to reuse it, but apparently those never came to fruition, and Hasbro apparently didn't NEED to reuse them. Point is, I don't think the "they'll want to squeeze as much gravy out of tooling as possible" reason is such a sure thing these days.
