There has to be a balance to make the line sustainable and this means sprinkling the top tier A-listers sparingly over the course of a year mixed in with the rest and also giving us more obscure characters as well.
If they just released all the most popular characters first, a lot of collectors would just bow out and the line would quickly lose steam and end. This is how I feel Hasbro is probably going to approach the line's variety here on out since the line is so successful now. They are going to want to stretch it out as long as they can so everyone wants to stay on-board and stick around longer. More money for them.

Again, this isn't a subscription model (or even a BAF model, which is what keeps these dumb, Z-list Legends figures coming). We aren't subsidizing the obscure characters. If they aren't in demand, why make them? No line peters out because it runs out of A-listers. Just look at Marvel Legends and Transformers. You just keep releasing the popular characters. How many Peter Parker Spider-Man figures pegwarm?

I disagree completely, having been scarred by the subscription model of MOTUC. Classified is not a subscription model so it has even less reason to make marginal figures (since we aren't subsidizing low demand characters by forcing everyone to buy them to get high demand characters).
Put out only the characters people want. Don't put out marginal figures that may not be in demand at all. There's no reason to produce something that few people are interested in. By the time you run through all the big name characters, you can always just do them again for latecomers to the line. If these obscure figures pegwarm, it also harms public perception of the line, perhaps influencing whether we get more figures at all. We shouldn't have to wait four years for an A-list character. That's just silly.

This makes no sense. How does it help the line to have waves where half the figures sell out like hot cakes and the other half get clearanced down to $10 (even by Amazon)?

Joe has done a reasonable job (if the Blackout waves didn't exist, it would be a great job). I don't mean to imply that Classified releases bear any resemblance to 2022 Marvel Legends waves. I just feel that 2023 has gone off the rails a little bit.

So on an unrelated note...
Target has had problems in the past where stuff doesn't arrive by the pre-order estimate dates and then they send you an email to "approve" a delay. Usually once per week, then after a few weeks they apologize that they can't get the item and then cancel your order (then send them to stores randomly later, or whatever). So last week I got a "approve the delay" email for the Motormaster figure in the Transformers line. This week I got a second one with a new date of 8/25. Then yesterday it shipped! YAY. So maybe the pandemic shipping problems are getting slightly better? We'll see what happens when we get to the python figure dates... |

I'm not holding my breath that we're seeing PP/TF anytime soon, sadly. There's absolutely zero information about where in the hell they are other than one release date of 10/7 (a CALENDAR YEAR PLUS ONE WEEK after preorder) for Outback only.

I will say that I still don't get the economics of the "we need z-listers to release now so the line goes on forever" arguments. If I'm only going to buy four more figures and then stop buying, wouldn't Hasbro want my money today rather than in 2025? Lines can end for many reasons. They should put out the most high demand characters as fast as possible to keep the line going and to make sure we get them. There's no reason to make marginal characters to "prolong the line" unless you are doing subscriptions or BAF waves. It just reduces the chances that all the characters that are truly wanted get made.
