That holds up. It's just hard to make a successful comic book movie if you aren't Disney and aren't working an established name like Batman. A lot of that comic book stuff was for an audience that grew up with vets in their lives as well. Lots of 80s kids knew WWII, Korean, Vietnam war vets in their families and grew up watching M*A*S*H reruns on TV. I don't know how much of that understanding translates well to kids today.

I think G.I. Joe would work best as a series in the vein of SWAT or NCIS with a somewhat large ensemble cast, but regularly recurring guest stars on both the Joe and Cobra side. We have conflict with the chain of command with the jugglers and we slowly meet more and more elements of Cobra as the show progresses.
CBS shows like NCIS already stream on Paramount+. It would make a good CBS series and then run it on Paramount+. The whole premise of the idea was designed to be episodic storytelling.

Put them in space. Soldiers, with the backdrop of space there. Destro and MARS, located on the planet Mars. Cobra La are an ancient race of aliens, known as the serpent people.
There is so much potential there. It's not been done before (space marines almost 30 years doesn't count) and kids love Universes set in space.

Here's my rundown on GIJoe media:
moveies- if you are going to adapt Snake Eyes, then adapt the SE origin straight from the comic. Not the Hollywood take, by some hacks. Rather, the actual story from back in the day that made a mark in comic history The other semi-decent idea would be a Cobra Commander Joker-like movie. streaming live action series - Lady Jaye still a thing, no you'd make Flint and Lady Jaye series. The lasting appeal of both characters is together, firmly a team both as soldiers and as a romantic duo. animation - XMen 97, what is old is new again, just do the would be Sunbow season 3. video games - could easily do a quality third person action shooter or a tactical warfare game on a double A budget. comics - I'm not sure how GIJoe can matter in print at this point, it all seems like vanity from Hama and the other stuff hasn't really made a mark. |

Completely agree with you on the Lady Jaye and Flint series. Animation yeah revise ARAH and also Resolute while we're at it. I had a few ideas for a video game that would work here. I generally think a tactical shooter is a good idea for a Joe game like Ghost Recon. With comics, you just need the right people on board and something to help keep it going. Maybe tieing a comic to the Classified line would do the trick, I mean they do have comic artists doing the artwork for the boxes. |

I think the problem is that Lorenzo Di Beneventura does a very bad job at picking directors for the films which result in people disliking the films. I don't get the impression that any of the directors picked for the films were fit for the task. Sommers and Schwentke don't seem like directors who care about the material and Chu isn't an action movie director he doesn't pace the film well.

I've literally said the same thing in another thread. I agree, of course. Sommers was already an adult, when the toy launched in 1982, so it's highly unlikely he had any connection to the property, like someone growing up with it would have. And I said the same thing about Chu. He literally directed two Justin Bieber concert movies and seems to specialize in musical/dance films (JEM and the Holograms, Step Up 2 the Streets, Step Up 3D). It would be like hiring Brett Ratner to direct a movie about the Holocaust.

You'd don't necessarily have to be a fan to make a good movie for a property. Nicholas Meyer wasn't a Trek fan when he was hired to direct Wrath of Khan. Rather, you want a director/writer who's sensibilities make a good fit for the property they're working on.
