Lee and Jackson are like Ford in that they're naturally good actors and can give a good performance with a bad script. McGregor too. I think you touched on some ideas that could've worked had they been better executed. Obi Won trying to get to the bottom of a mystery is very intriguing, it's unfortunate that the mystery the film had to offer was dumb. Anakin having some emotional drives could've been great if utilized properly. The most it lead to was him being a whiny brat who's manipulated by a sinister old man who gives him a super vague promise about cheering death. It would've been much more interesting if the Jedi did something morally questionable and Anakin's emotions lead him to question the Jedi's righteousness. In the end, it was all squandered because George Lucas doesn't know how to make interesting ideas in concept, interesting in execution.
I'm the same way, there are only three good Star Wars movies. It's a good thing Star Wars branched out into other mediums because the film franchise has more stinkers than zingers. Quote:
The thing with TLJ was that Ryan Johnson wanted to take the film in a more unique direction, but people at the top like Kennedy wanted TLJ to be more familiar. So the finished project was half new bold direction half recycled Empire Strikes Back plot. Ideas like Rey being a nobody and Kylo killing Snoke were Johnson's ideas. He wanted to go bold. However, Disney and Lucasfilms had no courage so they interfered so it wouldn't be too extremely bold. Honestly, I think Last Jedi would've been better if Disney hadn't interfered because then Rise of Skywalker was basically a "let's retcon all of Johnson's original ideas movie." Boy, did those retcons suck? Rey is a Palpatine, really. She should've been a nobody because that would've made her a more compelling protagonist, an average Joe who goes on to become a Jedi warrior and is a far more compelling and original protagonist than the Emperor's granddaughter is the hero now. We already had a chosen one and a child of the villain hero in these movies, just have a hero who is a normal person for once.
I forgot about the treatment of Finn. He was my favorite character in TFA. Quote:

That's the kind of approach I'd go with. The rebellion builds a new society and they have to stop the Disciples of the Empire from forming a new Empire. It makes no sense how we got from the Empire is dead too now the First Order is running things now. What was the Rebellion that bad at forming a new Republic?
Yeah. Sadly, it's real and decidedly not spectacular. I stopped watching most Marvel films after Avengers 2, so I'm not that well-versed in the gauntlet. I think there's issues that come with making your villains too OP, but I haven't seen the movies. |

I never read that issue, but after checking the plot summary, it looks like he ends up right back in there at the issue's end. lol

I don't know who's to blame for which parts of each movie, but I lean toward all of the individuals involved being idiots. Kennedy was never qualified for her job, Abrams is a hack and I don't think Johnson is the skilled auteur he wishes he was. But, that's just my impression.
Yeah. With JJ his unsolvable mystery trope does get annoying and at times lazy. I've seen his work outside of Star Wars and it's fairly decent. I really liked his Star Trek films and Super 8 was good. Lost was a good show while he was involved, that's where the unsolvable mystery trope does become a problem that you eventually have to solve, and Lost didn't do it well. This is also where I think the sequels came into a problem. JJ set up the Rey mystery well in Force Awakens to the point where you had endless fan theories about who Rey could be related to. With Rise of Skywalker, you had Lucasfilms playing to JJ's weaknesses because you actually had him solve a mystery he never planned on solving. As for Rian Johnson, I'm not as familiar with his work outside of Star Wars I've only seen the film Knives Out which was pretty good even if it got a bit silly at times. I know he directed the film Looper with Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Then directed three episodes of Breaking Bad one of them being the Fly episode. The other two are Walt's 51st bday ep and the one where Jesse gets abducted. Quote:
Oh, I like Han & Leia being married and having kids, that's absolutely how it should be. The way we're told everything went down and the way they behave, not so much. Han is supposed to be an outlaw changed by the love of a good princess, Angel and the Badman style. Disney asks us to believe he never really changed. I hate that. The rise of the fake Empire, and Han not changing, severely undermines Leia, which I also hate.

Oh, well then Indy five is officially happening with an octogenarian Indiana Jones. Oh, this is directed by James Mangold the director of Logan and the Wolverine. I don't blame you for checking out after Age of Ultron, that movie sucked. Glad Fiege and Marvel dumped Whedon after that mess only for Emmerich and Hamada over at DC to pick him up to ruin Justice League. I'll say Thanos on his own isn't really OP and in fact, the film version is nerfed in comparison to the comics. It's really when obtains the Infinity Gauntlet that he becomes really powerful. |

I think Feige interfered less in the previous three phases. His interference in the current phase is leading to it being less memorable than before and his insistence on hiring people to write and direct, who seem to have no knowledge of the properties, is hurting the stories. He obviously thinks he can do no wrong, because of how successful the MCU has been so far.

I think the thing was back then he didn't interfere per se with the projects in the first three phases, but instead worked with the directors involved to help craft a compelling narrative and maintain a consistent vision for the MCU. The thing is now, not only is Fiege working on films but he's also stepped into the realm of TV and is interfering more to keep maintain continuity with the film and television side of the MCU.
