All they have to do it recreate the classic "explosion" artwork on a full-size box front and, as a non-opener, I'm alright with that. Cool it with the zany fuckin' Tank Girl shit.

I would bet that the O-ring packaging will be these same as it is now, except the plastic bubble will be replaced with an enclosed box, with the image of the figure on the front of the box. Like the mock-ups for the Star Wars packaging.

As far as O-rings go, they can replace the bubble with a little cardboard box printed to look like the figure & accessories are in an original bubble. But if the cards aren’t going to be close replicas of the original then there’s no reason for the card to exist, taking up space.

This. Very much so. It may not be the same as seeing Cobra Commander placed in the box backward but it's still noticeable when someone has opened and messed with the packaging.

Unless you're buying them at Walmart where the boxes come pre-crushed, flattened, stomped on, ripped, folded, and then thrown across the aisle for good measure.

Walmart is where I saw the Cobra Commander placed in the packaging backward. That's why I do most of my figure collecting at comic book and video game stores or online. Target and Walmart I only do for exclusives like the recent Ultraman and Superwoman I got for the DC Multiverse line or if I spot a good deal while buying a phone card.
