It was delayed roughly three months due to the global shipping crisis. 15 months seems to be the norm right now vs 12 months that the Barge and Unicron took to arrive.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the Skystriker earlier than anticipated.

I saw some speculation a few pages back about the size of the box, and talk of taking a day off work to be home for it. For previous Haslabs, it has been signature required. So if you aren't home, you'll have to get it from the FEDEX location itself. I opted to have it arrive at my local Walgreens (most Walgreens are FEDEX partners, similar to Amazon & Kohl's). They have lockers they lock it in, and then unlock it and have you sign when you arrive.

I'm so excited I backed the Haslab Skystriker. I was cool to get an update about it. It would have been really interesting if the Skystriker Haslab was done during a time where it didn't have any real competition, and if it had an early bird incentive, because I believe it would have funded a lot earlier. The HISS is an awesome Haslab IMO and it priced appropriately, and is totally deserving of the success, but I think the early bird and the lack of competition really propelled it to fund quickly, and I'm not taking credit away from it's design and everything it offers, cause it's great. The reality is though that the Skystriker was competing with quite a few other Haslabs at the same time, in addition to the Roboskull (which could be considered direct competition), and it didn't have and early bird, so people's money was spread thin across multiple projects, and there wasn't any incentive to jump in at the beginning... The Skystriker ultimately funded very well towards the end, so it all worked out, but I just hope that Hasbro doesn't get the impression that there's less interest in the retro o-ring line because it took more time to fund, or required things like the Cobra hack to create incentive, because it faced more obstacles to begin with, and funded really well despite those obstacles. I hope Hasbro realizes that early birds and lack of competition really play into the early success of these campaigns, and will implement them in future o-ring and Classified campaigns.

One other thing to bear in mind is that IIRC, the Skystriker had an initial funding goal of 10,000 backers vs. the HISS needing only 8,000. Of course, looking at it from a dollars to dollars standpoint (and lazily not doing any math), I'm sure the financial threshold is comparable. I do agree though, more could have been done to get the numbers here higher. I also think that those of you that have speculated that the timing was poor are also on point.

Let?s not forget that the sky striker had been readily available recently with many variants to choose from. Plus tons if people have the original and may not have seen the need to update it for $230. The fact that it got over 16,000 backers is astounding! If it was the Whale it would have went well over 20,000 easily. The classified hiss tank funded so quickly because it is the first and only large vehicle available for the line.
Im certain both lines will get another haslab in the near future. Last edited by Katana78; 06-29-2022 at 10:17 PM.. |

Your points make sense to an extent, but I think the people who complained about the Skystriker just being another more expensive Skystriker didn?t really see what was being offered to see the value, and there were people who criticized the HISS being the first Classified, because they felt it wouldn?t be large enough to warrant a Haslab? but yes it is the first Haslab, hence something new, so that does play into it? I?m not saying that all conditions being and incentives being equal, the Skystriker would have had the exact same outcome as a Classified HISS, just that it would have played a significant roll in getting it funded earlier. Something else to consider is the critical voices of the Skystriker being done typically represent the loudest voices, and don?t necessarily represent the majority. I?m not surprised the Skystriker did as well as it did, and I?m not convinced that the WHALE would have far out performed the Skystriker, cause the Skystriker is more iconic, which could possibly attract more of the mainstream, many of which may not have had a Skystriker? I certainly didn?t. So I think it?s hard to fully measure just how well which one would do better without trying them under the same conditions.regardless, I think Hasbro needs to take the early bird and competition points into serious consideration in the next Haslabs.
I agree the skystriker was more iconic and was the correct choice for the first haslab. However with the current prices for a complete vintage, no ME versions as an alternative, and overall brittle nature of the Whale, hasbro will be printing money if they choose to do that for round 2. |
